Can anyone recomend any shops in central AR or pertinear, for getting custom driveshafts made up for a reasonable cost?
I don't want to modify the current ones I want to keep them for backups, but I need a new set of shafts made up for an auxilliary box going in.
Everyone on the net always says about $300 each , but that usually translates to about $1000 each in Arkansas dollars

Have you checked any of the local 4X4 shops ?

 

I've been talking with one guy at a driveline shop in LR . He's real friendly and helpful, but so far, real vague on prices, but if their prices on flange yokes out the door are any indication ( about $100 ea which I bought a couple) I've got a feeling a complete shaft with yokes i s going to be closer to $800+.
I don't know any real 4x4 shops around here, all i've seen are dress up shops.If anyone can ponit me to one of them, that would be a start.

 

The only one I know of is in Cabot but I have never had any dealings with them I think Scott has though . Local I don't know if they do driveshafts there but they could probably point you in the right direction.

 

That's a start.
I've been getting the feeling that the guy I've been talking with usually only does commercial equipment like skidder shafts , tug prop shafts etc and is used to dealing with folks who don't flinch when you say 6 grand
He's been up front in telling me I could get some stuff cheaper elsewhere, that's what kind of makes me think this isn't his usual cup of tea.

That phone call paid off. I called the guy in Cabot and he had the number for Twin city trailers in NLR on hand, It will only run me $350-450 per shaft, the high side for my big joint shaft.not bad at all, and this guy can make a real short one so I can tuck the thing right in behind my tranny and solve a few problems at once

Now to finish resealing that box , 15 gears, hear I come

I think twin city is where I had my last one built. I've also had a shaft built at Glovers down by the river port.

 

Glad that worked out for ya. I think I'm going to stop in and see those folks down at Cabot Tire & Offroad and maybe get them involved in a G2G.

 

Man, $350-$400 per shaft.....hell by the time I get 2 made for Mater, that is almost as much as the lift kit. I might rethink going to a 9" lift and only do a 4" instead. There is no way momma would let that one fly!!

 

All you'll need is to have them extended. Won't cost near that much. Probably around $250 total for both shafts.

 

That isn't as bad, I can handle that price. Ok, that means the 9" lift is back on!!

 

Just getting yours stretched wouldn't cost anywhere near that much. That $350-450 each is for driveshafts built from scratch, so I'm paying for all of the parts, all new yokes etc.

if all they have to do is cut your existing tube and add a length of sleeve to it and balance it out it should be a whole lot less
