I'm about to buy a 77 F150 4WD 3 speed short bed with a 351M. It has a blown head gasket. It has a 4" suspension lift and 35X12.5 tires.
I'm looking to swap a 429 or 460 into it. I will be welding injector bungs to a Vic JR intake and converting to EFI using a 89-93 mustang setup.
I know tuning a turbo in a mustang for street duty can be a hassle to get everything ironed out. Just wondering if anyone has done something simular to this? I don't mind tuning it myself with a tweecer, or having a shop do it; but I want something I can drive daily after I get it done and not have to constantly fight tuning issues, or be unhappy with the setup (seems like the weight of the truck would help spool a turbo quick?)
Also, any particular 429-460 up for the task of 300-400hp at the wheels stock with a little boost? Or will I have to have a aftermarket forged rotating assembly?
How will this tranny hold up (I don't know anything about trucks... Mustang guy here) Transfercase doesn't really matter to me. I would rarely put it in 4wd, and when I do i dont push it hard.
