300 EFI to 300 Carb

I was just wondering if I could make a efi into a carb without changing the head, I'm not sure if they are direct port. Can I just swap a carb intake manifold and carb on and go? Its not currently efi just looking at motors. Also if anyone here in colorado springs or around have 300 6(carb) for sale?

no, its not that easy. with as little info as you have provided, my only suggestion is to cut your losses and just buy an older truck or fix what youve got. Trying to do this is just going to result in way more time and money than buying an older truck in the first place, or some hackjob POS...

I dropped an efi 300 in my 77 a few months ago. i swapped the intake/exh manifolds to the new engine, changed the harmonic balancer, and added an electric fuel pump as the efi engine doesnt have the hole for the mechanical pump.

the advance curve is different for the efi engine, but i just stuck my carb'd distributor in my efi engine and it runs okay, it doesnt idle all that spectacularly but it runs down the road just fine.

dui can make the correct dizzy w/the correct curve, i just havent bothered yet.

Good luck

You can remove material on the efi block, where the mechanical fuel pump normally goes and it will work fine. The bolt holes are there.

You will need a distributor with advance weights, springs, and a vacuum advance to control your timing.

If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our custom curved Duraspark Distributor built with our new Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing. The full length bushing improves timing stability and spark scatter. If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. Whether you choose the Duraspark or the D.U.I., we curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at:

Also, there is now an excellent installation article on the D.U.I. Distributor on the Ford-Trucks.com site at:
