Why We Modify Our Exhaust System - Photo

Love my MBPR 4" system; EGTs definitely have lowered.

Just looking at the difference in the downpipes lets one know what a good mod this is for the 7.3.

Thought I'd throw this pic in to show any newcomers why we do this. The downpipe was coated with 1600 degree ceramic stuff. I choose this color although black and grey were also available in this temp range.

Wow. Picture says it all !.. I wouldn't have guessed it would have been that drastic.
Big difference. Have to add that to my winter project. Thanks for tossing the picture up.

ALLEGEDLY, the ceramic coating keeps the hot exhaust gases inside the tube for a longer period of time (without the coating the temps would dissipate more) which enables a greater scavenging effect through that part which, theoretically would lead to lower EGTs.

I have my doubts, of course, what actual benefit this has in real life driving situations. But I tow 12k+ and I will do everything I can to keep my EGTs down. This was a $90 cost and I'm pretty sure the area around the downpipe (ie, the firewall) will also be kept a bit cooler. I had contemplated exhaust wrap but read way too many negative stuff about the exhaust wrap. The ceramic coating pretty much is supposed to do what the exhaust wrap does without the negative side effects.

Looks nice. If and that's a BIG IF, I ever take out my downpipe, this would be a good thing to do.

I painted my pipes with a ceramic engine and manifold paint. Coated it on pretty thick. Rated up to 1500degress(f) or something like that. Not sure of the benefits, looked sharp! maybe will prevent damage and rust? (although i feel the heat alone prevents all rust)

It was the downpipe that comes with the 4" MBPR exhaust kit which I took to the only place in town (Vegas) that did ceramic coating - Ram Coatings or something like that. Took a couple of days and $90.
