Ranger Power Steering Pump Pulley Removal

Hello Everyone.

I am trying to remove the Pulley from the Power Steering Pump on my 1990 Ranger.

There appears to be a 3/8" Hex Cap Screw in the center of the Pump Shaft that I cannot break loose. There is nothing in my Ranger Shop Manual (by Helm) discussing a cap Screw that you have to remove or even a picture of it in the many pump pictures in the Manual.

I would like to know if the Hex Cap Screw is removed in the standard counterclockwise direction or otherwise.

Looking at the pulley from the front, the pulley itself rotates clockwise when the engine is running.

Also do you have any ideas on how to remove the cap screw? I have managed to break a craftsman 3/8" socket on the end of a short cut-off section of an Allen Wrench. I'm a bit fearful of applying any heat to the pulley shaft.

Thank You Very Much in Advance for any help you can give.

Gary

The pulley is pressed on to the shaft. Your auto parts will have a puller to remove the pulley. O'Reillys here loans them. The hex in the middle is there to hold the pulley while you use the puller.jd
