Man that looks good. You sure got my imagination going. My son (who is about to inherit the truck) and I debated how it would look on my '04 Scab (dark shadow grey met. / silver met. w/ chrome bumper) and decided to give it a shot. It makes a tremendous improvement. I'm not into a lot of chrome. Not only does it tone down the front clip, It looks pretty baddd. Thanks
how much silicone did it take? nearest store is 10 miles away and truck is my only winter vehicle. wanna make sure i've got enough. i've got an 80 ml tube of black silicone gasket maker. this probably isn't enough, but would it work or would i be better off with a different type of silicone?
my light output looks the same to me...look at the OEM Black lights. they have 0 chrome left.
as for the silicone, you need a good outdoor grade that stays pliable. a gasket silicone might work, but I wouldn't take the chance.
I just bought 2 tubes of the $3 stuff. It would probably be better to just buy a tube that fits into a caulking gun.
There is no such thing as too much silicone. Work that stuff into every crack and heap it on there. The joints are hidden, so it doesn't matter if it looks pretty...just needs to be functional
k i put it in the oven at 250 for 10 minutes and couldn't get it apart.... even after 25 minutes i couldn't get it apart... now there's a bunch of tiny cracks in the lense. not from me prying on it so i assume that it's from the heat. is there something i'm doing wrong?
I was thinking of painting mine body colored(dark blue pearl metallic), but can't be without my headlights for a few days while they are at the body shop getting painted.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences. I siliconed my lights back together today. So I should have them back in my truck tomorrow. And I will get some pic on by the weekend. Thanks again guys.
+1 on this, I didn't get the cracks in my lights, but after repeated attempts the outer black shell is starting to get all bent and warped from me prying at it. is this to be expected? Or I am I doing something totally wrong. (I am not a mechanically inclined guy... obviously)
could they have used different silicone with higher temp ratings in different years or something? cuz i tried again and at 250 degrees the silicone on my lights is not very pliable at all, the housing just bends just like herbert said. not sure how u guys are getting it apart........
Lights look good guys. jay-rod let us know when you paint yours the body color of the truck. That would look sooooo mean. I think Ford should have done this from the factory.
what are you using to pry the casing apart? I used the smallest flat-head screwdriver I've got and I took my time
that silicone is a mother to break the seal on. before you pry, you must release the silicone seal...after about 1/2 of the seal is done, you'll be able to pry the 2 apart
