spy pic radiator

I noticed on the radiator in the picture that it has side tanks instead of the top and bottom tanks. Did ford change the configuration after the 7.3l? It was my understanding that diesels used the vertical tank configuration due to the extreme heat the engines had and the better efficiency of the vertical tanks. I've seen the 6.0L and can't remember if they are also vertical and have never seen the 6.4L.
If they(Ford) have changed this I wander what their logic was behind it.
