Core plug/Freeze plug installation question

Hello all,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I rebuilt the original 300ci 4.9L engine in my 1977 Ford F150 4X4. When I installed the new core plugs, I used a little super weather strip adhesive around the edges to help seal them up.<o></o>
<o></o>
Now, a year after the rebuild, I noticed a couple of drips on the ground. Further investigation led me to believe the core plug on the back of the block was leaking. The leak however, is so slight it will only drip once or twice during a week long period of time.<o></o>
<o></o>
I would like to know if anyone has used #3 permatex when installing new core plugs. I would like to know how well it worked, or what else could be used to aid the core plug in sealing.<o></o>
<o></o>
The truck sits for most of the time; I only put approximately five to six hundred miles on the truck in the last twelve months, so I have time to tinker with it.<o></o>
<o></o>
I also looked at "Cooling system treatments/stop leak" products and learned they can be used to stop and prevent small leaks. I have never used this type of product before and I am apprehensive about a "Mechanic in a can." Has anyone used these types of products? Can they really be useful and harmless, or is it pure snake oil?<o></o>
<o></o>
I would rather not have to take the transmission and transfer case (NP435 and NP205) out of the truck, because they are so extremely heavy. I would hate to drop either of the above mentioned on my person while attempting to repair the truck.<o></o>
<o></o>
Any suggestions would be appreciated.<o></o>

Try a tube of Alumapowder(?). Any parts house or even China-Mart carries the stuff.
