I just got a used Edelbrock intake and carb for my 72 f100. The question I have is should I take the intake to a machine shop and have it media blasted or checked for cracks or wrapage or anything?
What about the carb? Should I replace any parts or jets , best way to clean it completly before I install it?
Any suggestions would be helpful

I had the intake blasted and checked for warpage, it is warped at 6000 of an inch. The shop said 4000 is max.

It would cost as much to get it fixed as buying a new one.
Is it to warped to use as is or am I asking for trouble?

If it's not to late do not buy another manifold that one is fine. And NEVER double gasket anything.

 

While I'm not a big Edelbrock fan, the air gap manifold series produces more power out of the box (on a street/strip engine) than just about any other manifold.

The carb,

The are carb cleaners which come in 1 gallon containers that is for total submersion of the carb- avail at any "real" auto parts store. Let it sok for 24 hours to dissolve any gum/varnish. Get a rebuild kit from either summitt or a local carb rebuilding shop, dissassemble and rebuild. Then you know it is right from the start.

 

I agree completely about the air gap, they rock! Edelbrock carbs air great for a daily there less troublesome then a holley type. More performance can be gained with a holley but it takes some work.
