I doubt it does much of either, these trucks aren't exactly streamlined to begin with.

The "tool shed on wheels" analogy is my favorite.

Isn't that the truth. I guess I will need to do the old standard mods to help improve the mileage

Yea, like Conanski said, it's not going to make much of a difference either way.

I will need to clean it,clay bar it and polish it,then wax it.

I know my deflector has stopped more than a few stones from hitting my windshield. Not sure if it helps mileage but I'm sure my tonneau cover does.

The less wind resistence you have, the better your mileage will be.
If you use a net in place of your tailgate, That will help alot.

Myth ?? BS ??

I gained 2 mpg when I replaced my steel tailgate with a pronet one on my 78 F-150 years several ago.

Also, The less dead weight in the vehicle you can see a mileage gain too.
For every 100 lbs of dead weight in a vehicle, You lose 1 mpg.

So nice that you need to resort to infantile name calling and insults.
That really shows your maturity level.

the tone sometimes (being a newbie) makes me think a bit before posting. Like we should know all of this stuff already. Sorry I can't help you, just thought I'd support you....

If it gets u extra mileage do it, no matter how many times its been debunked. Personally, I always lower my tailgate on trips and I do notice a difference. But the "toolshed on wheels" holds true, head winds are killer
