I have decided to black-out my truck! no chrome for me. All of my accesories so far are black so I thought i would take on my peeling front grille emblem. I didn't take as many pictures as I should have but here you go. It was a pretty easy mod just took some elbow grease. I started by sanding of the clear coating and the blue paint. I sanded it to the bare metal. I then painted it with black spray laquer, Its all i had in the garage. I put on about 4 thick coats. Then I wet sanded using 600grit. I kept sanding till the raised logo was completed striped back to the metal, It has a cool brushed stainless look to it and the rest of the oval stayed black. A couple coats of clear and it was done. Tell me what you think!!!
Looks great, any chance you're taking orders? I want my tailgate and grill emblem to be black and chrome instead of blue, but I don' have any painting skills.
i have mine sanded down to bare metal too but i havent painted it yet, i just put on an international sticker while im waiting. i think the black is awesome on black trucks
What the....Hey....You cant do that.... a ford emblem w/o the blue? Thats just not right. hummmm, on the other hand that kicks a**. I think I might try something like that with my truck. I have been saying for the last year or so that I wanted to black out the truck. NICE JOB
Nice I'm thinking about doing this to mine as well. I got the tailgate emblem in black from that site that is now for sale. Would have gotten the front one but I upgraded to the HD grille and it's got a larger emblem. What kind of clear did you use to make it smooth and have that dome effect?
I'm glad you guys like the way it turned out! Now on to the tailgate. As for the clear coat its just high gloss rustoleum clear in a can, I put a few light coats on wet sanded and then a few more heavy coats.
Well, I had my doubts when I first saw the thread title, but that actually looks pretty nice. Good job. Amazing what you can do with a little imagination and some rustoleum!
