Back up camera install- tailight reverse wire color?
I know we talked about this recently but the search didn't help much. I want to tap into the reverse lights wire from the loom to the tailights for an aftermarket back up camera I just got at Costco- what color is it?? TIA.
It's been there the last couple times I've been there... finally decided it would make hooking up the trailer a LOT easier... now what colour wire can I tap into????
Reverse is Green/brown in the driver's kick. If you have the reverse sensors, your job is even easier. Set the parking brake and put the truck into reverse. Follow the beeping noise to this module.Disconnect the harness from the module and the reverse is in that plug.
I have same camera, you use the connector in the kit and splice into backup tail light wire. Wasn't super reliable, so i connected it to one of upfitter switches
Can anyone tell me if there is a interface for a backup camera to connect to faactory nav unit in dash? I have 08 f350. Also I heard something about a camera that mounts into tailgate handle? Would appreciate any info.

The one in the tailgate handle is a factory option that displays in the rearview mirror.
Just take a test light to your 7 way plug or find a schematic for the seven way plug and tap into the reverse wire on that. Or, run the wire to your tail lights and tap into the reverse light there. That kit is simple to install. I put one on my camper for when I am backing up with it on. I also have one tapped into my indash GPS system. All that Ford Backup kit does is interface to the computer for you since the wires on the back of your nav system are really computer wires. I had to do it with my aftermarket nav system and the adapter works just fine.
I hooked mine up to the upfitter switch so I could turn it on and off whenever I wanted. That way I can check connections, etc while driving down the road. I like it better than having to put it in reverse.
I also hooked mine to the upfitter switch. The benefit to this is that while your trying to hook up your trailer, the camera is always on as you go back AND FORTH. Otherwise the camera is only on when in reverse (a bit of a pain)
I am sorry, aftermarket NAV. I personally do not like the quality of the stock one because the price is outrageous. I also wanted XM and it was not part of Sirius at the time. The one I put in also will play DVD's in the dash while driving, No I Do not watch movies while driving but its what I wanted. And finally I wanted a true IPOD interface. This is not possible in the stock system.
