Question Back-Rack - what to do?

Hi All,

I recently bought a used (1 month old - guys truck got stolen - and he got it back but the truck junk) Back-Rack for my 2006 F-150. I only paid $150 which is a deal considering they cost $250-$275 new locally and about $239 online - and well then you have to pay shipping..

Only problem I have is that this back-rack is setup to hold a tool box .. I will never have any need for the Toolbox portion..

So my question it this... do I cut down the brackets (which are 21" long) or do I leave them for now? Or do I just but the regular mounting brackets (if I can)

Thanks

from all the ones i've seen people leave them on and if you ever have something heavy like a quad or something hit the rack it wont twist the top of the bed where it mounts. which may happen with short mounting plates
i've never seen short ones.

Edit: i just looked on back-racks website and it's the same part# for with and without the toolbox
