aftermarket efi cam

Ok I know this has been beat to death in the past but I have a little twist to throw at ya. 1989 efi 460 cam selection. Heres the twist, i will not be held back by the stock ecm. Im going megasquirt and i need a cam that will work with the stock valvetrain. I will change the springs to match the cam. Im looking for more power in the 1500 to 4500 rpm range and a lumpy idle. It going into a 1987 bronco with a zf 5 speed 4.88 gears and 36 inch tires. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Voodoo - Hydraulic Flat Tappet - Lunati Power

Look at P/N 61600 or 61601. Both have the RPM range your looking at covered and have short enough duration to work with your low compression.

Are you using the Megasquirt as a standalone system or a parallel?

I am using MS2 as a stand alone system to run both fuel and spark. This motor only has to get me through the winter. I want to make I get the bugs worked out of the setup before i drop in the 501 i have sitting on the stand. Do you have experience with megasquirt?

No, I just found out about it in the last month. Looks like a great system, if the user has the smarts to get it all dialed in. I've been wondering if a hidden, parallel system could run clean enough to sneak past the California smog *****...

Please post your findings.

What trans are you running? If its an E4OD( If mermory serves me correctly) there is a seperate computer, the powertrain control module, pcm, that controls the trans functions. Dont quote me but im almost positive that if you supply a vss signal, throttle position, and power to this pcm you will have full trans function. You may want to research that for accuracy. But in this case or the case of a manual trans I see no reason why you wouldnt be able to replace the ecm with the megasquirt, hide it in the stock ecm location. splice into the factory ecm harness. and have a completely adjustable "stock" computer setup. The thing im not sure about is how that will work with the vehicles cruise control and abs. Ill do some diagram searching and see what I can find.

Thanks for the cam suggestions by the way. I was looking at the voodoo cams as well as this one by comp. whats your opinion?<FORM id=form1 name=form1 action=CamDetails.aspx?csid=1011&sb=2 method=post>

That Comp cam is pretty big, but with the megasquirt all sialed in it should be ok. Is the rest of your setup (heads, exhaust, intake..) ready to run 6000rpm?

How about this one
COMP Cams - Cam Details
It might not have as rough an idle though

I'm running an E4OD, 33" tires, 4.10s, and looking for towing torque. I don't want any loss in driveability and it has to pass Cal smog testing....
