Need more information. Do you have a manual system or ESOF, what kind of hubs are you using (less important, but could be useful), does it not engage into low or does the vehicle not move when in low?

My truck is a pain to get into and out of 4lo most of the time. It usually takes a big of rocking the truck back and forth and random shifts to neutral before I can get lo to engage.

It is EOS. with stock hubs. It moves OK, It just stays in high range.
I don't really need it a lot, but when backing my fifth wheel up a grade at home to park it. I thought I would try low range. It wasn't there. Had the brake on and in neutral when selected, but shift didn't happen. Thanks for the reply. Hammer

If the driveline is bound in any way, shape or form, 4lo will not engage. You have to find a sweet spot where the low range will mesh up, if your lucky 4-5' of rocking will do it. If your like me, it will take a bit more. 4lo will hardly ever just engage on demand.

I know this may sound silly (and not trying to make anybody seem stupid) but these trucks have to be completely stopped, transmission in neutral and your foot has be on the brake for it to shift into and out of 4 wheel drive low. I work at a Ford dealership and I get calls about this all the time.

Can't think of anything if it goes in and out of 4x4 normally.

Only thing is, I think 4LOW requires some extra effort on the part of the servo motor. It might be getting weak or you have a bad connection going to it.

Nope. Neither the manual nor the ESOF. I've had it grind like a mother once when my hubs were getting weird when they were still auto hubs. I forgot what I did, but somehow the output shaft of the transmission was still spinning when the ESOF system tried to get into 4LOW. Ouch...

Hey I am just glad it works okay. If it was a shift motor or something they usually won't shift into either 4wd high or low.

Which is what is making me curious. It's a job for my tcase to going to 4lo, it will usually make about the time I am ready to give up. I'll rock it back and forth 10-20 feet, dropping into neutral every so often while rolling hoping that it line up just right.

I hooked to my fifth wheel today, and then decided to try 4WL to backup up the drive.
Switched to 4WL and it didn't go in, switched back out and rolled a little and switched back in and it went right in. Really was nice for backing up the hill. Hit the level of the hill switched it out. It rolled about 5 ft and shifted out. Working about like I believe it should. Hammmer

that is way it is suppose to work. I shift my tranny into neutral is I am just barely moving and then hit the lever for the transfer case into low and it usually goes right in.
