Question Tach Trouble...

i have a 91 f150 with the 300 I6, e4od, and 4x4...

My tach will go to about 3200 rpm then stop, when i romp on it, but i can still hear then engine revving higher, then around 3500+ rpm the tach catches back up and continues to read normally, so i was wondering if anyone knew or could have an idea of what the problem is and how to fix it, thanx...

P.S.- when i first got the truck(2yrs. ago) the tach would keep up the whole time and function properly...

Thanx,
Jake

This is what my Tachometer was doing.

" " " '92 F150 Ext. cab 4x4 Longbox 302 w/ E4OD. It's got 135,000 miles on it. She runs good and shifts good. My problem is the tachometer. When the truck is off the needle is at 0, like it should be. But when I start the truck the needle immediately goes to 2,500 RPM. (The truck isn't running at 2,500 RPM, the tachometer just says it is.) When I accelerate it works normally above 2,500 RPM, but won't go below the 2,500. Does anyone know what would cause this and/or how I could fix this? " " " --So that was my tach Problem.

It was suggested to check the Coil and the connectors & wires to tach they all were fine but I cleaned up the connectors and terminals ( still did not work) ... So, I went to a yard and found a (93 F150 Cluster) swapped out the Tach's and I was good again,,,now working properly. So my problem was in the tach head. I do not know about your years. But for mine the Clusters only interchange in the 92's-- &--93's! The 94 to 96 years do not work in them. So if you check your wire's & connectors are good, look at the tach head,,,, mine was bad,,,Hope this helps, Good luck 92'
