That's a cool custom effect you did there. I like that gauge bezel a lot!
Thanks! I got the bezel on e-bay for $17.00, I think. I think it's just a laser cut piece of sheet steel, but it dresses it up a bit. They had a chrome one also, but I thought that might be too much glare.
How hard was it to change your gauge bezel? I was thinking about doing that but I need to fix my power steering pump first
As far as the Bezel goes, it just sandwiches in between the glass and the gauge face. Pretty easy really. Now the gauge face, that's a bit harder as you have to remove the needles and then carefully peel off the old gauge face and then press the new one on. The hard part is getting the needles back on in the correct position. The best way to do this is get the truck up to operating temp, and then make a note of where all needles are pointing on each gauge. Then after the new gauge face is on...but not the lens, get the truck back up to operating temp. and then press the needle on in the correct position. All but the Speedo, that is.
The speedo is really tricky, cause you have to be moving. So before you remove the needles, make a note of the rpm at a given speed in a given gear. Lets say we notice 2000 rpm in 2nd gear is 17mph. Now find a nice deserted road you can drive down and try to hold your rpm at 2000 or whatever rpm you made note of, and gently and just slightly press the needle on at 17mph or whatever speed you noted. now if it seems like you have it, press it on all the way. If not pull it back off and try again, until you feel it is correct. Note: You cannot just place the needle on in the zero mph location with the truck sitting still...it will be WAY OFF. Ask me how I know.
With the advent of GPS, if you have a unit that gives your speed, you could just use that and place the needle on at the corresponding speed of the gps instead. Didn't really have that when I did this years ago.
