I've been getting a bit overwhelmed with groundhogs lately and they are getting smarter. i can't get close to them anymore, they know seeing me = death. so after some truck assisted 300+ yard shots i am trying a new approach, for tonight it worked pretty good. i need a more powerful batch as after 2 hits he still poked his nose out of the hole so the good old .45 finished him off. So for your enjoyment, here are the 3 clips- (nothing graphic)
it was fun but i am going to step up the charge. my goal is some form of caddyshack however i dont need the neighbors calling the bomb squad on me. i will step up about 3 times that size and hopefully get the reaction i am looking for, these holes are fairly deep so i need a larger charge to get the full effect. i can use the lighter charges on shallow buggers
There was a sales rep at the college last week who was talking this tool that fills the groundhogs tunnel system w/propane then you ignite the gas....HILARIOUS
If you REALLY like to pop ground hogs, try a 22-250 Improved with a 6.5x20 scope. You are good for about 4100 fps at the muzzle and when you connect, it is literally like shooting a can of red paint.
lets just call it a redneck pipe bomb, the smoke was an after effect. i wont disclose shapes or contents and materials.
i have shot them with 22-250's using nosler ballistic tips, while it is neat, you dont get the same effect as when you shoot them with a .50 cal.........
my grandfather used to attach a hose (like what you find on the back of a clothes dryer) from his exaust pipe to the groundhog tunnel...then let his truck idle for about 1.5hrs while it fills the tunnel system w/carbon mon.
