4.6 oil leak

ok im looking at a 1999 f150 4x4 5 speed with the 4.6. it has 158,000 miles and it runs and drives fine but it has oil on the oil pan and the front of the tranny housing where the clutch is. i was wondering what problems this motor can have with oil leaks. i think in might be the valve cover gaskets but im not real sure. but just let me know what else leaks on the 4.6. thanks

Welcome to FTE Bshaips! IIRC, there was a problem with cylinder heads in that model year that causes that leak. A lot of trucks never had it fixed because the leak is minor and causes no problem other than what you are seeing now on this truck. Someone that is more familiar with this will pop up with more information for you. Good luck!

Got a 99 4.6 5sp with the exact same leak. Leaks from the rear of the passenger side head and it has been leaking since 30-40000mi and I am currently at 180,000. It leaks very consistently 1 qt every 3-4000mi so I never worry about it.
