help won't start

I have a 85' 2wd with a 300 inline 6. I got a replacement starter for it but it only lasted three days. got old one rebuilt. (have not ordered a new one as it takes three weekes to get the new one to where i live). the rebuild one works on the cables. in the truck it spins but it does not engage to the fly wheel. I also tried changing silenoid, pos and neg cables, any ideas ??

Are you sure you got the right starter? The starters for a 300 six with manual trans is different then one with a auto trans.

Are you saying you got your old one rebuilt and it does start your motor? Then it is possible the rebuild was not as good as needed. If the starter spins but does not engage the flywheel then the starter is bad.
