Autozone parking lot is where I did almost all my work before I moved into a house, mainly cause I bought everything from them. When I lived in the dorms I never had a problem finding enough open asphalt to work on, it was always keeping my toolboxes somewhere they wouldn't get stolen that was problematic.

Last year I changed tires and a fuel pump in the school parking lot what a PITA but being at a small ag school was able to find a lot of competent help. Then as luck would have it this year I found out that dad has a cousin 15 min from school and he is a trucking specialist for an ag implement dealer and has a nice building full of snap on tools he said me and my buddies could use to work on our trucks. You might see if you have a buddy up there that has a relative with a place you could work on your truck.

Yeah, I understand this problem... Was one of the reasons I wouldn't move out and rent with one of my friends... Losing the cement patch in my back yard and dealing with a bunch of chrome hungry thieves in a parking lot was not something I was ready to do....
For a while I considered renting a storage garage; can't imagine they cost that much, and hell it would have given me an excuse to buy a generator... The other alternative is to make friends quick with a farmer who has a nice big barn, lol...

If you have an Ag shop on campus you might be able to talk your way in there.
One time I was able to use my schools Ag shop for a fairly large job...it's inside and they have a lot of tools that I cannot afford. (it also helped that I was an Ag major)

Back when I lived on campus I did all my work right there outside the dorm in the parking lot. If it got dark or I needed power I would have to string a bunch of extension cords out through my dorm window, down 3 floors to where I was working....FUN TIMES!

Now that I live off campus I either do all my work in the parking lot or at my preachers house.
