Max AC blows through defroster?

Hey everyone. I just recently moved back to AZ, and got my '93 back from a buddy who's been babysitting it for the last 3 years. Now that she's really mine again, it's time to start fixing her up.

First off: my air. When I switch to Max A/C, after 1-4 seconds she starts blowing the air as if I've switched to defrost. It's cold air, which is nice, but I want it blowing on ME, not the windshield. Is this going to be repairable with the current HVAC head unit, or will I need to buy a new / newer one?

Thanks in advance for the help.

-Rob

Sounds to me like a defective selonoid that moves the gate which in turn directs the air flow. I know on the 90 it is above the HVAC unit in the engine compartment.

I would check to make sure your vaccuum lines have not disintergrated to make a nice leak.

On mine it was the white vacuum hose for tne defroster damper motor running to the wiring harness AND the little tee shaped thing that is a check valve that prevents vacuum to your A/C from dropping with engine vacuum heavy load.

Yeah I don't think we'll ever fix dumb drivers.

I thank you all for the advice. Hopefully I can get her into the garage in the next day or two and see what I can see.

X3 on the white vacuum line. Mine was disintegrated. I just pulled it out of the wire haness and fixed it with some regular vacuum hose. (washer size)

I also have the 351. I recently found my Haynes manual but haven't had time to work on this yet. Hopefully when I get home this week I can work on it.

Thanks to all who have posted advice!
