Question about gearing
Hey guys, i'm looking at getting a 60th anniversary 2008 F-150 with an 8 inch lift and 37"s
Except it's still on 3.73's.
Im thinking it should be on a different gear ratio with that tire/wheel combo.
Not only for gas mileage but the pickup and go and easier on the drive line.
What do you guys suggest for best "GO" and Gas Mileage? Thanks

5.13's are a little much for 37" tires, but if you plan on going bigger than 5.13"s would be good,
4.56's are what i plan on going too... IF i do a gear change... Not sure on any of that yet...
4.88's will be good for power and on mpg's depending on the driving you do, if its city driving 4.88's will be awesome, if its highway, your mpg's will suffer some.

most of it will be city driving, with the occasional 10-20 weekend drives to the cabin of maybe 150 miles.
So to sum it up i guess, i just want a good gear for 85% city driving, 15% long trips

with the city driving i would go with 4.88's but you will be married to that size or close to that size tire, with that gear size, if you gosmaller then you will have to swap gears...

Gear's alone would be like 4 or 5 hundred to have a shop install it, with parts and labor, should be around 1k.

If you ust do the rear and put it into 4wd, then you will get major bindage and something will break, anywhere from your transfer case down to either axle...
