Buying steel

Any places around South Dakota that a person can buy some steel? I am putting together some plans and a materials list for a flatbed for pickup.

Check with your local welding shops, many of them resell to the public. I don't know of any strictly steel sales places, except the suppliers for the companies. I got mine from State Steel when I worked at TCF...

If you head out to the Hills there's Ace Steel and recycling, and Pacific Steel in Rapid.

I thought about Ace and Pacific Steel.

No one around Pierre that sells unless the welding shops mark the price even more than what steel already is.

Well I better put my shopping list together.

Oh, they definitely do add to the price... If you wander as far as Huron, Marko Steel there deals straight to the public, and then the recyclers sell used steel. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the yard there at Huron that I dealt with so much... they sell good structural used steel.

State Steel in Sioux Falls is a good one. I've bought a bit from them...

For the life of Me I could not remember Marko Steel. My former neighbor would buy from them. I think they even delivered.

State Steel, any more it seems I get to Sioux Falls more than I do Rapid.

Barti Metal is the salvage place there in Huron... I don't know what State's retail prices are, I got the company price when I worked at Twin City Fan...

Just got done pricing the tubing I'll need for the frame and roll cage for the Bronco II-----Man, talk about sticker shock!!! Haven't built a complete car for a couple years, prices are really crazy right now.... The price of scrap iron just went in the toilet a couple weeks back, hopefully new steel will go down a bit in the next month or so before I really need it....
