moving an single wide modular home

currently i manage an apartment biulding and live in the biulding and i want to get out of doing this so i can get some peace and quiet when i go home after work and not have to chase people for rent and deal with other peoples hair clogs and all the other stupid bs. i dont want to rent a place to live i think its time for me to buy somthing. even if i only live there for a few years and move onto somthing better. iv noticed some realy good deals on nice single wide trailers that have to be moved. i have dot/mc autoritys and commercial insurance, i wonder how much an moduar home weights and if i would be able to secure permits to move one myself im sure id need overweight permits as well as the over dementional permits and maby have to hire an piot car. some of these moble homes would only have to go 20-30 miles with some companys charging 2000 just to hook up and then 3.50 a mile after that im sure i could save alot doing it myself. what are your thoughts?

I saw a Superduty dragging a singlewide down main street in Cabot one day. The mudflaps were ground half off it and the receiver hitch was literally inches from the ground. I've never seen a truck squashed down that badly.

I wouldn't want to try pulling one 30 miles with a 3/4 ton.

I wouldn't do it. I don't think you truck will handle it. It will pull it but it won't stop (I don't think they have trailer brakes!) and you won't be able to turn (front tires off the ground!)

Aluminum siding, aluminum roof and paneling, you're talking 20,000 lbs.

Shingle roof, sheet rock and hardyplank, you're talking 35,000.

Yes they do have brakes, but you're talking 5k lbs tongue weight, and a whole lot more than the truck is ever designed to pull.

i would pul it short distances. my cousin had a full sized one on his property when he bought his house and sold the single wide to a guy who came and drug it out with a Superduty. no permits or anything, but we are talking a hicktown in KY. i know people around here that move em with tractors quite a bit.

you are better of paying someone....it seems alot but their fees usually include setup also.....the only way I would hook to one is if it was a GN,even then it would have to be a very minimal distance

That 2000 usually includes breakdown and leveling and setup as well. You would have a hard time leveling since they can do it all with their hitch.
