I have installed a 2.9 out of a 88 ranger into a 71 VW bus. It has turned out fine but when I bought the engine I got all the wiring for the engine but there was no (CEL) Check Engine Light in the wiring. Can anyone tell me where the CEL originates? It seems like it must come from the ECA. If it does which of the sixty terminals is it. I have a wiring diagram but it does'nt show a CEL.
I'm stumpped.

Not sure if I am reading it right, but the only one I found was for a '95-'99 4.0L. On terminal #2 the Pink/Light Green wire says it goes to the "I/P (MIL)"

Thanks for checking into this. I'm wondering if the two engines use the same ECA?
You must have a manual with a wiring diagram. What kind is it and can I get one for the 2.9 v6.
