VIN/Manu. Label???

I am currently looking at a 2006 F-150 4X4 Supercab with 8' bed (WB=163")
XLT
36079mi
5.4 3V EFI FFV V8
Tow Pkg.-front tow hooks, skid plates,...
plus some electronic goodies (windows, driver seat, CD, keyless entry, etc.)
....and they're asking $18000 for it
What ya'll think?

ALSO, they are not sure the rear end on it and not quick to research it but I got them to send me a picture of the manufacturer's label from driver's inside door frame with VIN and all that code on it. I haven't been able to find a site or means to interpret all the coded numbers on the label, for newer trucks at least. I have found some for 60's-70's but that is it.

Any Suggestions?? Links to site that will decode it for me? I know this is a rare truck setup with extended cab and long bed but anyone know std rear end for it?

Anything else on truck I should make sure to watch out for?
I am going to check it out on Friday...

Thanks!

Probably 3.73. What is the two digit code in the axle field?

$18K (IMO) is way too much for that truck.

how many lugs does it have? pretty much the only 8 ft bed you can buy is the Heavy Duty I believe. If it has a 7 lug axle, then you have the Heavy Duty 9.75 axle with 4.10 gears

4.6 motor = 8.8 pumkin with 3.55 gears being predominant
5.4 motor = 9.75 pumkin with 3.73 gears being predominant

all 4x4's have the front 8.8 axle

EDIT: Monsta is right...about $2k overpriced.

The HD trucks have a 10.25" rear axle, NOT a 9.75 like the rest of us. Also, not sure about '06, but in '07 you could ONLY get the HD F150s with 4.10s in them.

I'm pretty sure, as tylus posted above, the only long bed supercab trucks have the HD package.....

Thanks for everyone's inputs!!
I did finally find a way to decode the rear end gear ratio code.
The code is B5 and equates to a 4.10 i am pretty sure... which I guess you say is the 10.25"....that'll be a gas hog for sure!!

Thanks again....and also if you have any other things you think I should check out on the truck this Friday...please just send it my way!

And it's a Limited Slip!

``````````````````````````````````````````````
Are the 4.10's the only option for that axle in that configuration?
I'm pretty sure, when you do some digging on ford's website, here's what comes up for the HD payload package:
"Includes LT245/70x17D BSW all-terrain tires; high- capacity 17" 7-lug steel wheels; heavy-duty shock absorbers; 72-amp battery; upgraded springs, radiator and auxiliary transmission oil cooler; 10.5" gear set; standard 4.10 axle (optional 4.10 limited slip). Requires 5.4L 3V V8 gas engine. Available for Regular Cab Styleside with 8’ box (145" wheelbase) or SuperCab with 8’ box (163" wheelbase). 4x4 model requires 35.7-gal. fuel tank, NA with 5.4L FFV engine"
On their "build your own" site, you can't get a 163" wheelbase truck without the HD package.....
Wow...that really sounds exactly like the details of this truck so it for sure has the heavy duty package...i knew it had a towing package but didn't know if there was a difference in and whether it even had the HD pkg. That will be nice for later down the road since I plan on keeping it for awhile. Which means I'll be back for modification suggestions...ya know pipes (maybe headers), intake, air filter, cap, etc....i've got bikes so gonna get a tall cap to put both in back...
One question tho, you say the HD package with all those options on a Supercab F-150 and 8' bed with 5.4 is not able to be the FFV 5.4? I just ask because the dealer says it is FFV capable and yet I've seen other articles where people can't even tell/figure out whether their truck is FFV capable or not b/c its quite obscure I take it?? I just want to make sure whether it is or not....do you know how to tell??
Thanks
Yes, I do know how to tell...mine's an FFV...this is what the owner's manual says....
"To identify if your vehicle is an FFV, it may
be equipped with a yellow fuel cap with the writing “E85/Gasoline”, or
check if there is a label on the fuel filler door, or check your VIN. When
checking the VIN, look for the engine type identifier (8th character). If
your vehicle is an FFV, then the character will be labeled as a “V”"
- Page 339, 2007 Owner's guide
In short...the easiest way is to look on the fuel door, should say something like "Gasoline or fuel ethanol only", if I remember right. I believe the FFV engine is available in the HD package, but I'm not sure...
Okay...Thanks again...
I don't think it is FFV than if the VIN is true because the VIN's 8th digit is 5...not V
Thanks
Take care
thanks for the fix. I thought the HD was 9.75 with a 35 spline axle (reason for the 7 lugs)...now I know better
