Question What front springs for a little lowering??

Well, my son and I finally have the IL6 out of the 55 and now we want to replace the springs (one side sits lower than the other). Rather than just go with Mid50 stocks, we're interested in lowering just a bit. We're keeping the truck as stock as possible at this point, putting a fresh IL6 in, nothing else new for now. What does anyone suggest? We found a kit at Mid50 and it looks like it will work. "Short smooth Springs for small block" they call them in the current online catalog.

Look into Posies. I have seen them in the No Limit catalog. I believe they have one eye reversed. According to the catalog, you should get a 2" in the front, 3" in the rear drop. I started a thread about the same thing on a 49 a while back. I saw it on the front page of the forum in the last week or so, it may still be fairly close to the front. There are some good discussions about this topic in that thread.

Agreed. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...f-springs.html I'm looking at the posies myself, unless eaton's reverse eyes are that much cheaper. The idea with an inline 6, is that the engine may weigh less than a V8, which may or may not raise the truck a tad if the new springs are designed for a V8. You could always remove a leaf or two, but the ride will suffer a bit. Perhaps you have the same potholes as I do, lol.

I just got a front and rear set of posies from Speedway Motors. I'm going to combine the front with a 3" drop axel. On the back I raised the front spring mount 2" and put the extended shackel from Mid-Fifty on the rear mount. I am hoping for a 6" drop in the front and 5" in the back. I have a bare chassis right now so I don't really know how much the total drop will be once the weight is put back on.

I've put the short and smooth stacks on mine - they seem great though not driven it yet as my truck is off road at the moment. They are made by eaton.

I went with the Posie springs with no dropped axle because I wanted just a minor drop. I checked the prices for Eaton too. I chose Posie because they have a good rep and were cheaper. I bought mine direct from Posie. They fit fine on my 53. I also went with Doetsch gas shocks. They make some for 3 to 4 inch lowered. Don't have it on the road yet but getting close.

erinaldi,
You may want to consider the "down and forward" front springs sold by CPP and MID 50s.
They are made by Eaton Spring in Detroit. I just installed them on my `56 and they made a world of difference in the ride of my truck. They also center the wheels in the wheel well for a more pleasing look. I can not tell you how much lower the
front as my truck is, as it was already lowered and I`m pleased with it`s stance.
Anyway look into them. You have nothing to lose?

Mid 50 is the way to go, they are awesome with assistance, and willing to educate as well, their price is competitive with shipping issues, i live in the northwest, and use them all the time, short and smooth are great, I actually went with a mono which is new with the centering issues...cheers
