Need Bed for truck restoring

Honestly, for $1400, you can get an entire rust free truck if you are willing to travel. That's the mistake I made. I should have travel to the south or out west looking for rust free parts rather than buying from someone who travels to get those parts and brings them back to the rust belts. Of course, there are less and less people doing that now because of fuel prices. But, looking back, I would have been willing to take a few days off work and spend the money on fuel to travel out to CA or down to TX to get a truck. Than I could have had a truck rust free rather than just a bed. If you go with the LMC parts, you still have to weld the bed together, get it straight and still have bodywork to do. You'd also be better off finding a good bed with just rust above the wheel wells and repair it. Those are a dime a dozen and cheap, rather than doing the LMC route.

I don't use 'bondo' either... only very high quality UPOL Dolphin filler/glaze or Evercoat products. I don't see why people turn up their noses at putting fibreglass filler over welds and finishing with some polyester filler. Sometimes filler is applied completely wrong and that's why it has such a bad reputation. A job where filler is used (correctly) is almost always 10x better than one without using filler. Just curious, but where is your box rusted out? Do you plan on butt welding peices of metal on the wheel well, then grind it smooth? I'm not saying it can't be done, I've done it before myself. It takes alot longer to do that, since you have to go slow to avoid warpage of the surrounding metal. Plus, it won't be as strong as a lap welded join with fibreglass and filler applyed. Also, it will just rust out in the same spot again, since your not changing anything.
