nothing...since Ford specifically says not to add them in the owners manual

these trucks are pretty clean burning...unlike older cars and carb'd vehicles

Can these actually damage the truck? I've heard a few people say to avoid SeaFoam.

some people love seafoam...do a search on it here on FTE.

after all the horror stories about Seafoam on FTE alone, I will never try it. but some guys will swear by it...even when their truck is missing and sputtering about to die

Because they do more harm then good. Todays fuel system cleaners are to abrasive. Fuel has cleaning agents already in it from the refinery, to aid in keeping your engine running to its full potential.

I've used Chevron's Techron in my other cars on an as-needed basis only. It works very well and I've had no issues with engine wear. It's marketed under various other names such as Progard. The only difference is price and corresponding concentration. The stuff that you can pour in every gas fillup is so watered down that I think it is a waste of $$. The more concentated stuff hints at changing your oil within the next couple of tankfuls of gas because it'll thin out your oil.

You get the same from all grades of Chevron gas. Premium grade supposedly has a higher dosage, but it's not worth and extra $0.20~$0.25/gal just to get it.

As long as you stick with top-tier gas, you shouldn't have to worry about engine deposits.

Hmmm, not really sure about that(the abrasive part). What makes you say that, any proof? If you go to BITOG, the general consensus is that cleaners are good in moderation.

I personally recommend Redline SI-1 or Amsoil PI, both have PEA(cleaner) and SI-1 is also a upper cylinder lube.

Only thing I was trying to say, was that I had talked to a mechanic who is a good friend of the family, ASE certified Ford tech. He told me to watch what brands to put in ex. like stp, outlaw, 104 octane, even the NOS brand. Me personally IMO I would not put any additive in because of the new advancements with these new engines from Ford. I'm probably blowing this out of proportion, sorry. Do you or anyone else know if Ford has a fuel system cleaner to put in the tank? I'm gonna do some research on this I don't have a new F150 yet, try to bear with me . Wonder if the manual says to not put any additives in fuel? I know somone on here said, I forget who, that the manual states not to put any oil additives in engine b/c of the warranty . Sorry for such a long post as I am also looking for answers too.

from what i have always understood was when a manufactor states no fuel additives i usually think they mean like a Lead additive or something similar to that.

reason why is when you buy fuel from Chevron, Shell, Valero/Diamond Shamrock they all had a fuel additives in there. heck the BP that ford reccomends has additives in their fuel.

the fuel for all the names listed above usually comes from the same distribution company in your area then a certain additive it added into the tanks that depends on the station. so when you run non name brand fuels the really only difference between them and a "top notch" fuel (at least in my area) is the additives.

so the chevron stuff that the op was asking about is very close to the Techron that is added just it is sold in a concentrate amount at the local part store.

fuel system cleaners

Guys,
As an interesting{to me} footnote re above post....Chevron,Techron post...
I usually buy fuel from a Murphy self serve..they offer a additive at the pump...for extra premium price...so I don't buy it but there you can opt for it mixed into your fuel.....
Rod

p.s.
The Murphy brand I believe is out of the midwest....ours are in front of Wally World....there you can get.03 off if you use a wally world discount card....I generally buy me a hundred dollar card and use it however I need....

When my 07 was at the dealer a few months ago,12K miles on it,with the whole top end tore down due to a collapsed pcv line, oil and carbon everywhere, pinging like a woodpecker on a street light, the Ford techs and a Ford engineer suggested I run a can of BG-44K in the gas tank every 5k miles! If not that then Chevron Complete fuel system cleaner,20 oz bottle.Thats what ive been doing and have had no problems since!
