gas cap?

This is probably the dumbest question ever asked on this board, but....

What kind of gas cap are our trucks supposed to have on them and can they be purchased locally (like NAPA)?

My gas cap has issues. I was not aware of it until today. Someone...tried to make a gasket out of an old inner tube. It was glued on and I never noticed it before. Now when I take a sharp curve it splashes gas all over the side of the cab, the running board, and the rear fender.

Gas is too expensive to be throwing away, so....I am asking a really dumb question.

56 F-100 (stock tank)

Thanks all,
Brian

Brian, not a dumb question at all, nobody can let even a few drops of that precious liquid go to waste now days. You should be able to source one at Napa, might have to take the old one in and match it up.

You'll need a vented gas cap.

Hi,

Yes be sure it is vented - I sucked the tank in on my 55 once. You can get them just about anywhere. Napa, Kragen, etc. The caps fit from 51 - 72 Ford Trucks.

Here is a link for a very nice locking cap on e-bay. It's the one I use on my truck.

eBay Motors: 1951 to 1970 Ford PU all Chrome Locking Gas Cap + Keys (item 110073866470 end time Sep-19-08 18:19:34 PDT)

Good luck,
J

Ok. I thought maybe it was some odd item or something.

I drove the truck close to 10 hours last weekend. 2 hours last Monday and another 3 today. I cannot waste gas, especially with the price gouging going on around here as of today.

Ohh...a locking one. Good idea Julie. Thanks.
