gas cap?
This is probably the dumbest question ever asked on this board, but....
What kind of gas cap are our trucks supposed to have on them and can they be purchased locally (like NAPA)?
My gas cap has issues. I was not aware of it until today. Someone...tried to make a gasket out of an old inner tube. It was glued on and I never noticed it before. Now when I take a sharp curve it splashes gas all over the side of the cab, the running board, and the rear fender.
Gas is too expensive to be throwing away, so....I am asking a really dumb question.
56 F-100 (stock tank)
Thanks all,
Brian

Hi,
Yes be sure it is vented - I sucked the tank in on my 55 once. You can get them just about anywhere. Napa, Kragen, etc. The caps fit from 51 - 72 Ford Trucks.
Here is a link for a very nice locking cap on e-bay. It's the one I use on my truck.
eBay Motors: 1951 to 1970 Ford PU all Chrome Locking Gas Cap + Keys (item 110073866470 end time Sep-19-08 18:19:34 PDT)
Good luck,
J
