F-250 - F-350 Differences

As I have been looking at tucks to buy I took a looked at a F-350 today. What are the differences other than bigger leaf springs and axles. Also, it felt slower, and heaver.

Also If somebody knows of a good truck being sold in the Parker CO area, please PM me as good trucks seem hard to find.

No difference in leaf springs or axles... The 250 has a 2 inch block in the rear stock and the 350 has a 3 inch block in the rear stock.

The springs are different, and the rear blocks are different, as Nolan said above
Rear spring codes:
A = F-250 & Excursion (6,084 pounds @ground)
B = F-350 SRW (6,830 pounds @ground)
C = F-350 DRW (8,250 pounds @ground)

It is possible to have B code rear springs on a F250, in 99 there were quite a few made, mine has them.

If you were driving a F350 dually it has lower gears than the F250/ F350 SRW. The SRW trucks had 3.73 gears, and most duallies had 4.10 gearsets.

Weighed my truck last year on calibrated scales with full tank of fuel and me inside (~190 lbs) and it came to 8,250. It also has 4:10 gearset.

I can't PM you since you are a new member (you need more than 25 posts to get PM's) but go to Berkenkotter Motors on Parker road and talk with those guys. I bought my '02 from them and they are great folks. Steve is my man. They are a small family-operated dealer with mostly trucks (especially PSD's - 7.3's too).

Berkenkotter Motors Specials

Good luck and post your purchase.

On edit: go to craigslist and type in superduty as a keyword search. Plenty come up in the Denver market including a couple in Parker.

I already looked at Berkenkotter Motors, they had a lot of 6.0's and some 7.3's that had lots of miles on them. I am also going thought a car broker so i can get into manheim car auctions. As far as the springs and axle's i could have swore i say somebody say that they were bigger.

I think that the F250s came with a Dana 50 front axle and the F350 has a Dana 60. The D50 has a smaller ring gear like a D44, I think the knuckles are the same. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't think it makes any difference unless you pull the axle and put it in a rock crawler, in which case the D50 isn't supported with aftermarket axles, diffs and such.

Found this in a different thread:

"2002 and up f250, f350 and f350 DRW have the dana 60 front diff. 99-2001 f250 and f350 SRW have dana 50 front diff. 99-2001 f350 DRW have dana 60 front diff"

so it depends on the year on what front axle you have.

Unfortunately, trying to find a 7.3 with less than 100K on the clock will be quite a search. They are out there but you'll have to beat the bushes to find them. However, a properly maintained (with records of repairs and service) 7.3 with 200K is more realistic and shouldn't be passed over as a high mileage vehicle. Just depends on condition and configuration of what you want.

copy and paste

There is a two-character spring code on the vehicle certification sticker on the lower doorpost behind the driver's door. The first character is the front spring code, and the second character is the rear spring code. A common spring code for a CrewCab 4x4 would be VB. The V means 5,200 pounds front springs, and the B usually means the rear springs on an F-350 SRW. However, some F-250s also have code B rear springs.

Any pickup can have any available front spring code - depending on options, and it doesn't matter whether F-250, F-350 SRW or F-350 DRW. Here are the spring codes for the front leaf springs on '99 thru '04 PSD 4x4 pickups:

T = 4,400 pounds @ground
U = 4,800
V = 5,200
W = 5,600 (rare on a pickup)
X = 6,000 (only with snow-plow pkg on a pickup)

Rear spring codes:
A = F-250 & Excursion (6,084 pounds @ground)
B = F-350 SRW (6,830 pounds @ground)
C = F-350 DRW (8,250 pounds @ground)

If you already have code B rear springs, then you already have the same rear springs that are on F-350 SRWs.

If you have Code U or V front springs, then you might like the code X front springs. In addition to giving you a little more weight capacity on the front end, they will give you a one to two inch lift of the front end.

If you wanted to really beef up the springs on your F-250, then put the code X front springs and the code C rear springs on it (they should bolt on). But be warmed it will then ride "like a truck".

BTW, NEVER change leaf springs without replacing all the U bolts with brand new U bolts.

I just looked at my sticker and the code was WB. What is the W mean, since you said rare on a pickup?
