As these guys said - I don't think there is a pre-pump in the tank for this thing. I was originally going to use the stock sending unit/pickup/setup from the stock tank but with plumbing all custom lines this was just easier.

My sending unit will now be an aftermarket one made for a custom tank.

Oh and my original plan for the e-brake was a line lock setup. I actually have one plumbed that I think I'm going to remove before I run the fluid through the system for the 1st time. That was going to be temporary until I did a driveline brake to be used as the e-brake, but this sterling rear with built in disks and e-brake was cheaper than messing with changing gears, adding a limited slip (one came in my sterling) and then adding the disks and e-brake setup. The sterling deal cost much more than I was planning for sure, but I still think I'm ahead of the game on it. I'll have about $700 into it when all said & done.

I am glad you guys set me strait. I mistook the original sending unit assembly for having a pre-pump. The assembly has a filter on the bottom and almost looks like it has a pump in the canister, but upon closer inspection it only has wires going to the sending unit arm.

I wonder why the original unit is so complex when the system can be easily simplified in these conversions. I will be crossing the same bridge here shortly on my conversion. I am new to diesels, so I am having to learn as I go.

For the record, the pics are of a 1997 12 Valve stock tank sending unit.

Been too busy to post this til now but I brushed up on my aluminum welding skills a bit more on Tues night. Starting to look like a tank even!

Looked like this by the time I left

Oh and I finally found a use for these cheesy little 90* clamps I've had sitting in my clamp drawer forever. They actually worked well for holding some of the baffles while I tacked them.

Why is there so many baffles? The plastic tank in my truck has none and it's a 33 gallon Bronco tank.

Okay I understand fuel slosh, I drive a tanker trailer, but it still seemed like a lot. Now I typically only worry about the weight transfer I figure you're worried about fuel starvation. With this much interference now at less than 1/4 tank couldn't this create foam in the diesel possibly having the same result?

I'd be interested in a price as well. I have your design you emailed and another that I'm working on for my swap. Either way im needing a tank. I'll hopefully be ready for a tank really soon.
