My truck ADD was in overdrive last night so I bounced all over the place in what I was working on. I messed with wiring for a bit to try and start cleaning up the stock wiring. I'm looking at using the fuse block out of the 91 Dodge to update it a bit. It already has the circuits for power windows, etc. so I think I'll do that. I decided I gotta get the motor in and look at gauge wiring etc. before I mess with thta much more though...

Next I moved onto the Hydroboost setup. I took off the stock vacuum booster and started taking some measurements to see what kind of bracket I will need to bolt the hydroboost up.

Vacuum vs. Hydro - side by side

Measuring for the rod length ---> bracket sizing

Last I started messing with started my front cross member/leaf hanger.
I won't be able to finish it until late next week or after as my buddy that does all my cnc cutting and bending is on vacation, but I will get started on building the device from the pic that is supposed to be above (maybe it showed up this time???)...
Man i HATE rivets I started by grinding them then hitting with a flap wheel to clean up and then to hammer them out. I quickly went to the plasma the head off then hammer out method. It's a little quicker but still sucks...

You can see some of the materials for the new cross member under the old one

Btw, the proportioning valve from the '91 dodge appears to be an identical replacement for the '70s Ford unit. The mounting bolts are the same, and all the lines are the same positions and angles. Also, the throttle pedal and cable from the '91 dodge fits nicely in the Ford, just open up the top hole where the cable goes through, and drill one other hole for the mounting bolts, it goes right in. There's a rubber grommet in the '91 dodge's door near the hinges that will fit perfectly in the hole left by the clutch rod in the floor of the Ford. Lots of stuff fits from one truck to the other, amazingly enough.

On those rivets what I've found best for me is taking a cut-off wheel and cutting an "X" in the rivet then switching to my air hammer with the chisel attachment. The air hammer makes quick work on the weakened head then switch attachments and punch them out. But then I've got a nice strong air hammer (love my Matco tools )

Unfortunately I dumped the proportioning valve, pedals, etc. with the cab carcass when I moved. I did save some odds and ends - so I'll look in the boxes to see what I have, but for now I'm sticking with the Ford proportioning valve. I'll have to look at the pedals a bit more. I have pedals from a 94 dodge auto, but it looks like the stock ford gas pedal might work well.

I did the X thing at 1st - but I still ended up just completely grinding the heads off as it didn't work well. Plasma is way better...

My impact hammer SUCKS soI stopped trying it after the 1st rivet and instead I got one heck of a workout (and a sore thumb - being tired/fatigued and slipping sucks!) from the 4 lb. sledge...

Now that’s really funny..... I do that all the time! I must have ADD fabrication and rebuilding skills! Good to see someone else suffering from the same!

It's hard when in both of our cases there is so much left to do on our projects. It makes my head spin sometimes as I get started on one thing, but that makes me see something else and when I get started on that it leads into yet another project. 5 minutes later I am working on something COMPLETELY different from where I started

Suzy says I have "car ADD" in general just because I bounce from project to project or car to car so often. I can't help it - there are so many different, cool cars out there that I want to own them all. I also have too many projects going at the same time so depending on what mood I'm in or what cars (or forums) I saw that my "interests" may change on what I am working hardest to finish at that moment

That is WAY too funny...I've never been actually diagnosed with A.D.D....or in my case probably A.D.H.D....(Can't Sit Still)...But my mom swears up and down that I have it....ever since i was little bouncing off the walls....can't sit still....etc....All the symptoms point to it...so I pretty much assume i have it...Cars and music are the only things that can really keep me focused...i do bounce around a lot like that tho Steve...then add O.C.D. in to the equation and oh boy!!! May have my Crew Cab at the house tomorrow if it all works out...You wanna sell that old booster Steve?? And a bracket when you get it all fabbed up for the SD Hydroboost?? LOL

I haven't been diagnosed with ADD either - it's more of a joke. They hadn't invented ADD when we were kids Dave. It's really just a BS excuse for why parents can't control their kids anymore. They can say "oh, he has ADD" and therefore not push the kid to behave or do well in school.
I do have a bit of OCD as well (again - never diagnosed). Why do you think I am so anal - haha. Lukcily it's not that bad and I don't have to turn around three times and clap when I leave the room. I just need to have everything clean, orderly and straight

Cool deal on the crew - congrats! So I guess you finally got the title worked out???

If you are asking about the stock booster - I can sell the it. I have another one out of a 73 camper special as well.

Now for the hydroboost bracket - there is a reason I'm not posting too much on this so far. I'm gonna see if I can't work with Ed on manufacturing a bracket to sell. Just gotta see if he is open to it

Huh? Not sure what exactly you are asking, but I had the NV4500 bolted in the truck with the motor.

Ford. I got 2 of them at a good deal. 1 for this truck and I will be putting one in my 74 supercab when I finish this and start that mess
From what I have found the hydroboost units are the same in 99-07 F-250 up to 550 (maybe even 650) trucks - so they aren't hard to find.

So I got a little bit done last night on the front cross member. It's slow going though for sure...

Rusty stock stuff that came off. The small brackets MAY be re-used so I left um in the sand blaster so Suzy can have some fun (she loves sand blasting).

Hunk of tube I'm using - ready to be cut to length

Marked for the hitch receiver tube

Drilling the 4 - 1" holes for the corners of the receiver tube.

About an hour later - 4 holes are drilled. This tube is thick (1/4") and my hole saw was getting tired...

Center cut out using a cut off wheel

After a 1/2 hour or more of clean up with a drum sander...

I also refined my measurements a bit for the hydroboost vs. stock booster. I am working on a bracket for these right now. I'd like to possibly work with a buddy on these to make a bracket we can sell so I'm not posting much detail on this yet.

Stock booster and bracket off the 74 4wd crew

Interesting bit of information..... I have been looking into some options, but sometimes a little knowledge and a simple solution is nice! I need Steven to catch up so I can start steeling more of his ideas!

Hey guys - back from camping - so back to work. Hopefully the hydroboost or front leaf hanger will make some progress tonight.

As for rust - the drip line is the worst area - although it's not bad. There was also a little in the pass rear door - but that was due to the previous owner's "restoration" of the thing. The didn't do a good job with sealing putty and just ran it over areas that looked like they had a litte rust before. Well - they just made the areas worse.

There are also a couple tiny pin holes in hte driver floor area - but that's nothing a little Line-X won't fix!
