I did that on the other forum this is on (www.cumminsforum.com) so I guess I might as well do it here as well. I just wasn't going to unless people wanted to see it.

To be honest the reason why I'm following this thread is watching you fabricate stuff. You seem to have a knack for it and it gives me ideas as to how to work on my stuff. So yeah I want to see it as well
Haha - thanks! I LOVE working in metal and luckily I guess it shows.
Believe it or not making this stuff is fun for me - well most of the time...

Ok - so not so much is new. I am still (yes still) messing with my seat mounts. They are turning out pretty good (see link above for lots of pics) and are finally almost done.
I am now looking for another d60 since the seller of the previous d60 flaked out:banghead:
Last night I was waiting for some paint to dry on the seat mount so I ripped out the dash board to clean up some wiring and also make it easier to get to my pedals for looknig at using the dodge pedals and also for the hydrobbost swap which is coming up.
Removing the dash revealed more evidence of the truck's original color (white)
I took the old steroe out and look at the mass of wiring that left with it
Same thing for the trailer brake
I will re-wire new versions of each of the above later on. My wiring of course will be MUUUUCH cleaner!
There were 2 more things I found in pulling the dash...
1) The stock, cardboard glove boxes deteriorate a ton over time. Mine is pretty worthless now, so it looks like an aluminum replacement is a new addition to my "to do" list
2) I came across the original punch sheet from the build on this truck. It will go in the file with the original build sheet that I found in the front seat springs. Just another cool thing to have with the truck

you can buy new card board glove boxes for like $12 or so, and it might be a good way to make a template for a aluminum one if you wish to do so...

yeah I've seen the cardboard ones - but if I were to spend $$ on one I'd go for one of the plastic ones they make. They're $25 or so - but they'll last a LOT longer than another stupid cardboard one
I'm going to see if I can piece my stock one back together enough to make a pattern off it. If I can I'll make an aluminum one. If not - I'll splurge and buy the plastic - hahaha

It's been a little while since I posted but I am STILL (yes still - it's been about a month of nights) working on the seat mounts.
I would have wrapped them up last night but I got distracted by cleaning up my new D60 front end
Tomorrow my buddy and local D60 guru (75F350) will be picking it up to give it a good sand blasting and seal, joint, etc. replacement
"new" 78/79 d60 vs. the 87 d60 (in front) I had
my "new" axle
Obviously a little rusty and some idiot left the diff drained with the cover loose for a bit...
NASTY, stock shock mounts and weird piece of tube that were on it
Removing the pass side shock mount was the worst. It had all sorts of weld bead on it. Here it is 1/2 way cut off
All clean and done!

already covered - but that was a while ago so I'll go over again.
78/79 d60's share the spring pad width with the earlier trucks. The later axles are the same overall width but the spring perches are 5" wider apart. The pumpkin is moved over closer to the driver side (see pic). In order to mount one of those on these trucks you either have to go with stupid high lift (which I don't want), or you have to change the suspension to a 4 link or radius arm type front - which I am too lazy to do at this point. The rearmost shackle on the trucks is the issue. moving the shackles over 2.5" per side puts them directly under/through the 90* bend (bottom portion of the C shape) in the frame.
Most people that run the 80's axles on the 70's trucks just move the shackles to under the frame and run 40" tires. I want right about stock ride height and 35" tires - so that won't work for me.

When you said ""new" 78/79 d60 vs. the 87 d60 (in front) I had" I figured the '87 had already been mounted in your truck. I'm now guessing that you bought the '87 as an upgrade that didn't quite fit. Makes sense now.
Edit: I didn't fully read your above post maybe it was mounted with the "lift".
I bought the 87 d60 from a buddy when I very 1st bought my crew. My plan was to swap it in. Since he had a 79 F-250 that he bought it for I figured it was a 78/79. Well... he's not super good with trucks or parts so it was not.
I planned on trying to make it work (I was originally going to do a 4-link front end with coilovers) but then I got lazy. Actually - I wanted my truck done sooner - so I figured just find something that will "bolt in" for now and drive it for a bit. If I get around to 4-linking it later then I do

naw - seats were a different deal. I had the back seat done - meaning I could have moved it to the front to drive the thing. That was the plan actually. Finish the motor - put the rear seat in the front and drive it - then do the real front seat mounts later.
I just did the fronts now because I hit somewhat of a stopping point.
They just took too dang long so I didn't get my hydroboost and dash setup done while waiting for the 60 as well...
