Underneath all the splatter and flux it's just a weld, just as shielded is, the real difference is you have to clean a mess up behind one not the other.

Thinking the Government stimulus plan is working is like thinking that taking water form the deep end of a pool and dumping it in the shallow end will raise the water level of the pool.

And here it is 11:45 and I am yawning and thinknig of goin to bed "early". I am usually working in the shop until at least this time.

But now I'm quitting the glowing box and gonig to bed.

I did draw a bit and play in cad on my front receiver hitch/leaf hangers deal I am thinking up - so I can say I "worked" on the crew a bit tonight!

I didn't mean "here" as in where I live because I know darn well you're close by. I just meant "here it is".

I didn't mention in the thread but the leaf hanger/hitch is for the front. I am also looking at trying to find a place to mount my winch. I was hoping to have it out back, but due to my lack of options on a fuel tank I think I'm going to make an aluminum one for between the frame rails under the bed. I won't spend much more to do that than to buy a repro from blue oval parts and I can up my fuel capacity if I do so. Only problem is if I do that I don't think I can fit the winch back there.

i have always been a fan of the reciver winch mounts, you can have it in front, back or on a trailer, then you can make a mount for it in the bed of the truck for storage so its not as exsposed, my buddy just had his winch get trashed because his jeep was in a crash.

That was the original idea but unfortunately (not really - but kinda) is the thing is too big/heavy to move it around regularly.

If it's in the front it'll get a custom sheet metal bumper.

Based on the whole thing with galvanization and diesel fuel - yes. It's still in there - but will be coming out.
Sure I could get my current tank coated, but the good stuff is like $250. Or I couldget a repro tank from blue oval - but it's like $250 or more. Either way it's still only 17 or 19.5 gallons.

If I spend $200 in aluminum and some time with the welder I can have a bigger tank that fits cleanly under the bed where I want it and holds more fuel. I need to get my winch mount figure out 1st so I can see just how big I can make the tank and then I can calc. the volume/capacity.

That's the tricky part on these builds - every little thing depends so much on everything else that you really need to have ALL your parts lined up and ready to go befor you start your build. And for most people $$ doesn't allow us to do that

either that or in the front "inside" a custom bumper. I just need to get the thing in my hot little hads to do some test fitting. A buddy's been "storing" it for me for a while. He's had it since before my move and it was one more thing I didn't need to move so I had him leave it at his house. Now it's time to grab it and do some test fitting!

You might be able to make tanks and sell em to all of us that have the highboys....Can't find a damn tank for the rears because they never came with a rear tank unless it was an add on or a custom tank...Besides..with those pretty welds..who WOULDN'T want one hiding under their truck showing off it's belly!!! LOL
