Yup - worked bitchin while we were there - but getting it in and out was a biotch!

Getting it out by myself is just one more thing I can blame on my partner in the house. He bailed, left me hangin on the house and therefore upside down. I lost my perfect house/shop to now go back to paying rent rather than a mortgage. F him!

So I had to meet someone at the house this afternoon to get rid of some more crap out of the garage. Since I was there I thought why the heck not and called AAA to get a tow for the crew. I requested a 20' flat bed hoping it had a stinger on the back end. Luckily it did. It took a little convincing of the driver, but $25 tip later I had a 2 for 1 tow and the crew is in the shop!

The alfa took a trip to my uncles shop for some motor and body work lovin, but that's another forum

Crew going on the flatbed

Of COURSE it started raining a bit just as we were loading the cars! Freakin weather!!!!

Crew dropped behind the shop and 1/2 way in

Finally in it's new home. A little organization and some wiring in the shop and work will commence

have fun with that. i just helped my dad with his 2 post, and it suck an egg! the drilling wasnt so bad it was the 150 Foot pounds of tourque that the lag bots needed that was a killer, with only a short tourque wrench. but a 2 post lift is very nice to have.

I figured I might as well bump this back up to the top. I got my electrical run and finished plumbing the compressors, so it's time to get back to work:headbang:

Got a late meeting tonight so no time to work - but tomorrow it's time to fire the welder back up again!

Nothing like a 4 month break

Last night was the 1st night of really being back to work on this thing. Surf was good earlier this week and last weekend was spent with Alfas and Hot Rods...
I have been welding on the front cross member a bit every night, but no pics (it's boring).
I also started on the "doubler" plates for the motor mounts, which are what the pics are of. Since I didn't have any 3/16" sheet around when I was making my motor mounts I made them out of 1/8". After looking and thinking on this I was a bit nervous, so I am adding another 1/8" doubler plate to the outside. 2 thin plates welded together are stronger than 1 thicker plate equal to the thickness of the thinner plates, so this will be stronger than 1/4".
I got the front ones done and tacked in last night. Back ones are cut, but not welded in yet.
Anyways - nothing exciting other than the fact that I am back to work and taking pics

Had another productive night last night. The good/bad thing about a real shop is with the lights on and all closed up in there you can loose track of time real quick. I wondered why Suzy was asleep on the couch when I finally finished, but then I looked at my phone and realized it was 12:30 am

Anyways - the motor and tranny came out for what is hopefully the last time. I am working on finishing welding/plating in the front cross member, and then will start the steering box swap.

Motor out

Plating the front x-member. That bottom bolt on the AC pump looks like it will hit - but it is actually in front of (closer to the radiator) the x-member - so it won't. The rear "pocket" I made for the other bolt needs some "massaging" though

I would suspect he plans on boxing in to the new for more strength. Just a guess.

boxing it in to that point is fine i just dont see the point of keeping the stock part, if i were him and had his skill i would just make a new one...

It would be easier to fab from it, It is welded pretty good and would be tough and messy to remove just to rebuild... Thats just my opinion.

Pretty much what Festus said, but add in the part that I like keeping the stuff semi-stock looking when possible.

Also - that upper part of the x-member helps keep the upper portion of the frame from wanting to move/bend/rotate inwards. I don't like the way the cross member is now seeing as it's no where near as good at doing this as it was when stock (5" or so tall), but it's better than if I removed the upper portion.
It will be boxed in, and it will look NIIIICE, but with the AC pump right there and the oil pan sitting as low as it does - it's not as strong as the stock x-member.

I still like my setup better than any of the other 4wd x-member mods I have seen people do. Aside from HRDROKN's maybe

so I got a little work done again last night. Not much to show as I got there late (surf was good) and all I did pretty much was weld.

I should have some noticeable progress here soon as I warp up the cross member plating/welding and move on to boxing the frame at the new steering box mount.
