There always seems to be a bunch of negativity when the upcoming 4.4 motor is mentioned. I admit I'm not expecting perfection, but I think this could be the most practical offering for me when it arrives; I'm excited!
I don't haul heavy equipment around or anything; just a 6000lb travel trailer and some dirt bikes. And I think there are a LOT of people like me that will benefit from a heavy duty 1/2 ton with this new motor. It could be the right compromise between power and economy for many people.
Sorry, honey (my 97 F250), but your 460's appetite for fuel is more than I can afford on those long weekends...
At latest, it should have been 04. But if it comes out and gets low 20s highway, perhaps we can squeek out near 30MPG with DPF deletes and aftermarket tuning. I'll be at least cautiously about power and MPG, but not so optimistic about sales.
I wonder how much extra they will charge for the 4.4l? Will probably be more than a $4k option.
That's where I hope Ford's marketing team uses their heads and realizes that an in-house diesel costs less than a purchased engine and will price it accordingly. This seemingly would give Ford a huge market advantage over the competition.
I'm sure they will price it like it's make of pure gold. I wouldn't be surprised if the diesel SD and diesel F150 are within a couple grand of each other similarly equiped.
I would bet the price for the option will be in the 6-7000 dollar range just like in the sd's. ford thinks they can kill public for the all the money they put into bringing this to the market. Problem is they are years to late and way to low on mileage to really get the sales they need to justify the option.

That is indeed something to keep an eye out for...
I'm not going to get carried away. The best my wife's 2.4 Solara has gotten was 33hwy. When I say squeek out near 30, I mean like 28 on a good day.
It's still a truck and diesel isn't nuclear.

Thats all you get in your solara? or is that the epa rating? I drive an 06 audi A6 4.2 and I get about 34 on the freeway at 70 miles an hour. Which is funny since the epa rated my car for 16-24
Im super excited about the diesel though. Ford should have brought it out years ago... Its just too bad that people gouge diesel prices so badly now....

Is that hand calculated or overhead display?
No offence, but I've personally NEVER seen a 4.2 Audi get anywhere near that mileage. Even a 3.2 getting that mileage is rare.
