Volant or S & B CAI 06 F150 5.4

Been doing a little research and I kind of like the Volant and the S & B cold air intake systems. I am familiar with K & N since I have the FIPK in my 90 F150 4.9 for 8 years now and no complaints with K & N, but I kind of like the sealed cold air box that the Volant and the S & B provide.

My goal here is to improve MPG since it has plenty of power in its stock form. I also understand that the stock air filtration system does a pretty good job as is, so I am wondering if a CAI upgrade buys me much. Any suggestions recommendations would be appreciated.

ive heard CAIs dont get you much. But you might want to look at the snorkel going into the fender well, its only 2". I replaced mine with a 3" pvc tube and got a much better response. All you got to do is remove the snorkel and cut a 4.5" length of pvc to replace that section. Tie them together with a 3" x 3" rubber gormet from the hardware store. Total cost is $6.00

That is my concern, that an aftermarket CAI will not buy me much as far as MPG. I have noticed that the stock intake snorkel does narrow down where it connects to the fender. Thanks for the information rplatt. Do you have pictures of your modification?

I just installed the Volant CAI on my truck. I've only been driving it today so my opinion on performance is limited, but I'm happy with it so far. the V10 forum has a couple threads on it.

fordmdb is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE. fordmdb is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
We are a new dealer of S&B Filters. After installing 3 different brands of intakes on our F150 5.4L for fit and function, the S&B came out in the top of its class in our book. Its a top quality pc for these F150's and thats why we decided to be a dealer of this product. Now we have quality matched system (5.4L F150's) with our tuned X3 and S&B intake and its economically priced for our customers.
For the V10's we are still evaluating on what we feel is a top quality intake.

Mike

I did the same mod as rplatt then i got tuned so i went with the s+b.Dont expect big mpg gains if any.If your not getting a tuner just remove the snorkel and get a drop in 8hp gain no tuner needed says php.
