Floor Jack Issues

I've talked with some of you about this. I have a nice 3 1/2 ton floor jack, that I've used for about 8 years now. Well, last week after I had the boat down off of the jackstands, I noticed my trusty jack was leaking fluid all over the floor. Well, it must have blown an internal seal. I called around locally, and found out there is NO ONE who fixes these anymore, since most are made overseas (Do we make ANYTHING in this country anymore??) and parts are impossible to get. I thought I'd just go ahead, and take it apart myself, and maybe see if I could find a replacement seal/oring. Nope. Not happening. The case on this jack is sealed, as in no access to the internal parts. So, I have to bring myself to throw this thing away over what probably amounts to a $.02 part. Just makes me sick. Off I go, looking for a new jack.

Yup Pat everything is throw a way any more. You dont fix just replace. Do you use this jack a lot. I say that because sometimes not using them much the seals will dry up an then when you have a load they will fail. One tip when you get another one is to to run that jack up an down at least once a week. That should prevent this from happening. Good Luck an tell us what you get for a new one. I need a new one myself.

Hmm.. I'll keep that in mind. I do use it maybe once or twice a month. I diid find one, by Werner, that is able to be worked on, and parts are available, but man, they want almost $500 for a 3 1/2 ton! Might be worth it in the long run.

You like college better than pro because you have a better shot of your team winning in college. (even last year)

You got it! No, actually, I was pretty disenchanted by the pro strike in 87. But, I've always like college more than pro.

Just like us NU guys. Start out talking about a floor jack...

End up talking about football!!!
