My uncles old 87 f250 is in the junkyard. It has a 460 with a carb. Its 4x4. Do you think i should try to steal the rear axle? Do you think its a 10.25 with 410s? if it it it would be pretty nice to have dont you think? I could probably get it for cheap money. I have an 89 f150 4x4 with a 302. I guess the f250s body is a piece (and its auto) and mines in decent shape.

An 87 with Carb? I thought it went to EFI then...but anyway, if you find some usable parts then sure but if you're just going to take it to be a packrat then I don't think it's needed. I doubt the rear axle has 4.10s in it, not many had 4.10s from the factory but there is a tad on the diff you can read or give us the axle code off the sticker on the door jam.

Hi-
I'd think first to put that motor up somewhere for when you need a new one, as long as you can get the trans with it (it sounds like you got a clutch). But anyway, if the 250 rear gears are the same as your front I think you should hide that away somewhere too for when that 8.8 wipes the pinion bearing.

In my opinion it would be easier to modify the 8.8 than install the 10.25 used axle which probably needs to be rebuild anyhow. The 8.8 is pleanty strong for 36s. It starts to take a hit when you throw on 38s. You can put a 37 on it and be perfectly fine according to 4wheel magazine.
