Here's some more fuel for the fire. Its kinda strange, but I found this website on a poster at the high school I work at (how weirdd is it that its Parkland High school?). Midwest Transit Equipment - Used Buses - Used Bus Sales - www.Used-Bus.com They have all different kinds of busses with 444's, 466's 7.3's and a bunch of other engines.

I've been looking lately, and it's easy to find a 466 under 100k , with allison 4 spd's or std 6 speeds for under 4000$ 1995 model yeah, mechanical injection!!!!!

Gotta have mechanical injection....

Even if I had a gazillion bux, I'd want to swap a 466 in a pickup. Then get all the bugs worked out. Then build another one, but out of a nicer truck.
Of course, after all that, I'd have to build myself a 95 IH 4900 4X4 krew kab with at least 600hp. When that goes good, I'd work with a computer outfit, like Edge or PPE, and kustom build a computer for the 96-04 DT466E. No reason not to have 600-1000hp from an electronic 466!

I think they have electronic performance already, the problem is that the fuel system is limited to not much more than stock.

I think the current options are either:

1. Stick to the mechanical injection setup

2. Somehow invent a common rail setup for the 466

Experimenting and trial and error can lead to a hi po 466E. I don't see too many guys willing to lend their engine to someone like me, especially when this is just a hobby. But by far, the real way to go is the P-pump.

I thought the 466e was the HPOP HEUI system like our 7.3's , capable of only a little more power than stock...?

it is HEUI, I'm just tryin to think outside the 300hp window of a stock 466E

I was hauling corn to the bins from the field last night and I had been thinking about shoe horning one of the DT466's into my 76 F-250... Then next thing I thought about was our old Diamond-T 5-ton truck with a dump box sitting with the carb out of it and how you can no longer get a carb rebuild kit for it...

BANG!!! It hit me...

PUT A 466 IN THE DIAMOND T!

I presented the idea to my dad and he loved the idea... sounds like there's some fun to be had with this one...

Sounds like a great use, and gets the cob webs off the classic old timer! Take pix for us!

Will do!

I would say this thread should be moved to general diesel discussion, but everything in there dies out.

Does anyone know the dimensions for the DT466?

Edit: specifically the 93-95 engines?

I have a few different measurements I took a couple years ago. Don't go by what the overall dimensions are from the IH website, because they don't paint the right picture. I just gotta dig thru my computer to find it, and I'm at work now.

They come with an SAE# 2 bell, which can be adapted up or down if needed. My main measurements are for fitment into my Super Duty. I have a couple different measurements of block height from the oil pan flange, oil pan dimensions, head length, and width. I work with a 94 466 everyday(the one on youtube), so I can get more specific if you need. Mine aren't exact to .01", but it'll give the idea.

I pulled a VERY quick 49L x 30W x 41+ h. and the 30W goes all the way below the frame rails.
