How to clan FPR screen --94 PSD DI

In my never ending attempt to get my truck running normally (that is not sputtering when I let off the gas) I an going to try what I should have tried first...cleaning the screen between the FPR and the fuel bowl...

I took a few q-tips and cleaned from the bowl side (came out black!), but is there a way to get the entire screen clean?

TIA

What you see from inside the fuel bowl is all you need to clean. There's only about 1mm more around the outside edge that's glued to the plastic orifice. If you see a nice shiney screen, you've done all you can do as far as the screen. Tell us, what else is your truck doing?

A few weeks ago, after my truck sat for a month, I started it up and it seemed like it was running on half the cylinders. I made sure it was full of oil, no change.

The next day I changed the fuel filter and it would run normally, until you accelerated and then let off the gas...at which point it would sputter the same way it did prior to the fuel filter change (with the CEL on), for about 4-5 seconds and then it would run normal...until you left off the gas.

I have changed the CPS, the TPS, and kinda cleaned the FPR screen (all I had was the two q-tips in the camper) It seems like it is getting better, and not happening as much as it did in the beginning, but I still worry about something bigger being an issue.

I have tried every which way to Sunday to get codes, with no success.

One other question...when I go to get a new air filter, the part #'s show up as a small oval filter when the filter I have on it is a large circular one that is not covered...is there two filters on this?

There are only two types of filters for our trucks. Ones with lids mounted on them, and ones without. They are all about 3" round by 4" tall. Maybe the year model is throwing your parts guy off. Ask for a filter for a 95 or 96. Or find a different parts guy. LOL So when you cleaned the screen, did you look at it with a mirror? if not, my guess is that you just smeared the crud around. Really bad ones take some time. And make sure your using the qtip stick, not the cotton. Just keep brushing it till it's shiney and you get nothing on the stick. It may be having a fuel return problem. Is the problem any different from the front to rear tank?

Also, check your fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the outside of the FPR. You can check it with a normal tire gauge that goes to 80psi. Unmodified should see about 55 psi. Anything under 50 may be cause for investigation. And it will be messy, so have your rag ready and one under the regulator. It will slowly bump, bump, bump the psi until it maxes out at whatever psi you are running.

No mirror....i can only imagine the people around the campsite looking at my rear end up in the air as I stood on the bumper messing under the hood of the truck

I should be able to try to clean out the screen when I get back in town next weekend...any other ideas on what to use besides q-tip sticks?

From what I have been reading it looks like someone modified the air filter and it is a napa 6637 filter? The guy at autozone started laughing when I brought it in...he thought it was for a tractor

thanks for the help!

You can really use whatever you want that's small enough to get in there. The main thing is you don't want to comprimise the screen. The qtips I use aren't qtips. They are actually swabs with plastic sticks for detailing stuff. I find they work the best.

The best place to get your replacement filter is www.fleetfilter dot com The part number there is 46637. They are cheaper than just about anywhere else.
