Hello everyone. first let me say I am new to the FTE and this looks like a great site. I wanted to know if anyone is have problems filling up fuel on a 2006 Ford F250 5.4L (gas). I been going to the gas station an it take forever to fill up my tank. It keeps on kicking off like it is fuel. I changed my fuel filter and gone to two different stations. I still have this problem. Could anyone help me out.

never had a problem getting fule in its keeping it that is my problem. maybe your tank vent is blocked somehow????

 

I have a 2005 f250 and have the same problem. I find that if I park at a pump that has a slight elevation on the drivers side, the truck fills better. John

 

I wish i had that problem. When mine shuts off it takes to much gas.

 

I think ford has a fix for your problem though.

 

yep got the same thing with my 08 super duty gas. I found if i put the nozzle in as far is can then i can squeeze the handle full. it its only like 3/4 way it keeps kicking off.

 

I just recently bought my '05 5.4

Yes the first time I went to the gas station, I could not get more than a half of tank in it no matter what I tried. The station I go to does have a bit of a slope to it, and I was positioned so the filler was on the low side.

So now I pull in so the filler side is the high side and all seems ok.

I just wanted to give you some updates on the fueling up problem. I was looking around on FTE and found some guys (gary2010), (Racerguy) and (4wd) who had the same problem on their F350 V10 (gas). (Racerguy) mention that the problem is that the Ford F350/F250 (gas) has a EVAP canister located in the back above the spare tire. When this canister get full of dust/dirty or if the line gets pinched/kinked it will not allow air too escape when you fill up your tank. (4wd) mention that Ford has this issue on their TSB (Techincal Service bulletin). This will be under Fuel Tank Pressure build up problem. Ford does not metion this EVAP canister in their Schedule Maintenance Guide or Manual. You would think that they should if it's a filter system. This item is not covered if you pass the 3yr/36,000 miles. Anyone with this problem an is still under the 3yr warranty, contact your local dealer as soon as possible. (4wd) mention those who have pass their warranty will pay a price for the kit ($281.00 part plus 1.5 hrs labor). I'm going to contact my local ford dealer in (WA) an see what they say about this issue. I will keep you posted. Good luck to all of you.

Some 2005-2007 F-Super Duty 250/350 vehicles may experience premature automatic shut off of the fuel fill nozzle, or repeated fuel shut off at the fuel station delivery nozzle. Vehicles operated in muddy or dusty environments can encounter a dirt-clogged carbon canister system. More specifically, the carbon canister's vent, fresh-air box, and filters, clogged with dirt from operating in such environments.
ACTION:

Use the following Service Procedure to resolve the concern if the carbon canister system is dirt clogged.

NOTE: THIS TSB ONLY APPLIES TO F-250/350 PICKUPS, AND F-250/350 PICKUP BOX DELETE / CHASSIS CAB VEHICLES.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Inspect the vehicle carbon canister system and if it is found to be dirt clogged then continue with this TSB.

NOTE: IF THE VEHICLES CARBON CANISTER SYSTEM IS NOT DIRT CLOGGED, THEN PROCEED WITH NORMAL DIAGNOSTICS AND DO NOT CONTINUE WITH THIS TSB.

Vehicles with Pick Up Boxes:

1. If the vehicle was built on or after 9/14/2006, proceed to Step 2. If the vehicle was built prior to 9/14/2006, replace the carbon canister assembly. This carbon canister has a revised internal filter media.
2. Relocate the fresh-air intake port to a more protected location using the Fresh Air Hose Kit, for pick up applications only.

Vehicles with Pick Up Box Removed or Chassis Cab:

1. If the vehicle was built on or after 9/14/2006, proceed to Step 2. If the vehicle was built prior to 9/14/2006, replace the carbon canister assembly. This carbon canister has a revised internal filter media.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to give you an update on Slow fueling. I called my local dealer in WA today. I gave them the TSB# 06-19-15 and they gave me their normal run around. First thing is that this TSB # has been updated twice and the new TSB is 08-4-12. You can still use the old TSB 06-19-15 and they could cross referrence. This is not updated on the TSB/RECALL tabe on top of this page. Second thing is that this problem only happens when you drive on dusty road and the canister gets clogged. Just how it is explained on the the TSB. That's fine, the catch now is that the new TSB updates states that your Check Engine Light has to turn on First before they can take steps to find the problem. You No long could use the excuse of having the fuel pump handle kicking off at the gas station as a defence. Even if you go to more then one gas station or use different pumps. This Engine Light update is just another way Ford is playing with us. This issue is happening to some F250 V8/V10 (gas) with more than 36,000 mile. Pass your warranty and it's your problem. Again, they do not mention this Part in any of their Manuals and Schedule Maintenance Guide books. Third thing is that the kit and labor is going to cost you. In WA the Labor - $110.00 Two Parts - 1. fresh air Kit $110.00 2. Canister - $440.00. One word comes too mind "DAM" . A price we have to pay with no warranty. I had this happen on my 1986 F-150....I just cut the bottom off the canister, dumped out all of the carbon, and the taped her back together again......lol.

I'm not suggesting that's what you should do, however.

I know this is an older post, but I'm having the same problem on my 05 f250 superduty. Was just wondering if anyone has replaced the the canister and fresh air kit themselves. Is it difficult to do? Anyplace i can find steps with diagrams on this repair?

Here is the directions to change the filter.

1. Take off the spare tire from the back.

2. It will be easier to take off the unit if the truck is on a set of ramps.

3.. You will need to take off the spare tire support system off.
(the string system). You might need to use a impact wrench to take off the bolts. They are put on tight to hold tire up.

3. Take off the bolts off from the long filter. These are tricky because they on the frame behind the filter.

4. Know you can change everything.

5. Reverse the process to install back.

It will take about 1.5 hrs to get everything done.

Sorry to dredge up an older thread! I just found this when searching for solutions for the same problem I'm having with my '07 F350 V10. Mine is a flat-bed SRW, so I have decent access to the filler hose almost to the tank, but have had little luck fixing the problem. After reading this I'm seeing that it may just be the fume canister. Has anyone simply put a venting valve on their tank to fix it? There's a small port and side tube in the filler opening from which a tube could be run to a venting valve.

Either way, it's a major pain but I'm glad to see it's not just me!
