Best source for finned diff cover

Okay...my rear cover is leaking (bad seal after gear swap)...so the shop has to reseal it for me which means taking it off...so...now would be a good time to go to a finned cover...any suggestions on where to get one at a good price?

Links would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Joe

I bought my OEM aluminum, finned cover (08 Super Duty) from directfordparts.com for $41.76. Part #8C3Z-4033-A

I bought 12 longer bolts (5/16-18 x 1.25)for $.50 each from my local ACE Hardware.

dieselmanor.com also sells the OEM one with bolts included.

I just got back from a LONG weekend of camping...Thanks for the links...these are GREAT!!!

We actually got to go see Counting Crows and Maroon5 on Thursday...my cousin has been traveling with the Counting Crows for more than a few years now...he runs the lighting board and designs the stage lights for the tour...so we got hooked up with back stage passes and got to meet some of the band members...both my girls got Maroon5 and Counting Crows drummers autographs on drum sticks...very cool for all!!!...and we made the holiday weekend even longer because of the concert on Thursday...so...that's why I haven't responded back...my blackberry didn't show any replies...I don't know why the cache does that?...

I really like the look and price of OEM one...plus I'm a cheap skate (LOL)...

I sent Ed the FTE/Parts guy a query to see if he could help out...

First though I have to call my rear end shop tomorrow and make sure they will install a new cover when they are fixing THEIR mess up with the seal...if not...I may simply have them buy the cover as long as they don't charge me much over what I could get it for...I may even send them to Ed!!!

With all the heavy towing I do...and seeing as how they have to fix the leak...I thought this would be a good mod...

And you guys did NOT disappoint me with the links!...

THANKS!!!

Rep points to all you guys...

joe.

Question...

Would stainless bolts be acceptable from a strength standpoint?

My local hardware shop has them for $0.96 each and was just wondering.

Also do I need flat washers as well as lock washers?

Thanks,
joe.

SS is fine. Just get flat washers and some lock-tite.

Great choice Joe. I used Royal Purple 75W-140 gear lube... the friction modifier is included in the RP gear oil formula. No need to purchase the separate FoMoCo friction modifier.

Here's mine...

Bob,

Looks NICE...can't wait for mine to look that good!

I don't have the limited slip so no friction modifiers are needed for me though regardless...

When I changed my gears...the shop asked if I wanted to go LS at that time...but it would have been a minimum $450 to do so...seeing as how I have a 4x4 with that extra drive axle ~13' away from the rear axle incase the rear gets stuck...I opted to stick with my open diff...

When mine is done...I'll simply post a picture of yours since mine will look the same with those yellow Bilsteins and new shiny aluminum cover! LOL

Joe I also have the '08 cover and I used the RP fluid as well. I am sure mine doesn't look as good as yours will. LOL
Anyway for the price it is an awesome upgrade.

BTW you went camping and didn't let me know. Now I know. When you coming back this way? I would love to hook up again.

Look Bob...matching covers!

I guess I should ask if this makes my rear end look bigger!

Just got the truck back a little bit ago...shop pulled the other cover...and fessed up that the tech that originally did the work did a pee-poor job of sealing it...

They refilled with new synthetic fluid like I paid for originally and installed this cover. I opted for stainless fasteners.

Great mod IMO for less than $70 in parts...to help keep rear end temps low...

Bob's truck is much cleaner than yours. You think he even drives his or do you think he just has it to do mods?

It looks good Joe... especially the "baby-blue" silicone. Cute.

Thanks for the compliment Ken... But, my OCD therapist prescribes regular driving of the X.

Even though I'd rather drive my wife's van when weather is nasty.
