F150 with mustang 302HO ECM programming

Hi all. I ran across this forum searching for a way to tune my 88 F-150 5 speed. I joined and searched the forum but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I currently have a 302 HO (272 crane custom, bbk headers)running on the stock truck speed density ecm. It runs ok with the truck injectors, but it runs out of power alot sooner than when I run the mustang injectors. The mustang injectors run fine until the ecm goes in open loop at idle and starts blowing alot of fuel out the exaust. Either way, the idle starts to "hunt".

I am wanting to find a way to program the ecm. I have the harness and ECM from the car I pulled the motor from: 89 mustang auto, speed density, so if its easier with the mustang ecm, I don't mind swapping and the additional wiring for the injectors.

Thank you for the help!

Chris

go with a mass air im sure that ur cam has too much valve overlap for speed density. lobe seperation cant be more than 114 degrees with sd

MAF conversion, would be of great help really let the cam work, also i think the mustang ECM might help... Not sure on it though. If you have it on hand, it wouldn't hurt to check.

chek on ebay for a mustang harnass with MAf and ECM... then just make your harnas MAF and swap ECM's you will be just fine bigger injectors arent needed below 300Hp stock 19's is ok.. bigger and it will run rich

The cam was a crane design that was modified to have 114 degrees of lobe separation.

I made a pin out comparison of the 88 (map) and 89 (maf) ecms and it doesn't seem too difficult. Only a few changes from the truck harness.

Back to the programming question I had, what is out there for the mustang maf ecms? I have automation control and programming background so I don't think it will be too difficult for me to get up to speed on it.

Thanks in advance and thank you for all the posts!

For tuning the mustang computer, see Welcome to www.moates.net! : Moates.Net for the cheapest solutions, or something like The TwEECer -- EEC-IV user programmable module for a ready-made solution.

Both the truck and mustang use the same 19lb injectors(orange top), so this shouldn't make any difference unless the "Mustang" injectors you have are higher volume like the 24lb(blue) version.

An '89 mustang ECU should be mass air.. which is even better and what you should get if this one you have is not an '89. What is the catch code on the label on the computer? It's the letters in large print to the right on this pic..

I was wrong about the year. Its actually an 88 and had the automatic. My truck is a 5 speed. I will check the code on the ecm and post it. Thanks!
