E40D throwing a ton of codes..
The E4OD in my newest addition to the family, isn't shifting. I checked all the codes today and here's what I got:
56- TOT reads -40 degrees Fahrenheit, or circuit open.
23- TPS out of self-test range
91- Shift solenoid 1 circuit failure.
92- Shift solenoid 2 circuit failure.
93- Coast clutch solenoid circuit failure.
94- Converter clutch solenoid circuit failure.
99- Electronic pressure control circuit failure.
With all these simultaneous codes, I would think that there may be some broken wires somewhere. Could I be right, or has the solenoid pack given up the ghost?

You are most likely in 2nd gear and 4th gear. With no electrical power to the transmission, you will get:
4th gear in "D" (may feel more like 3rd because the lockup will not activate)
2nd gear in "2" or "1"
and reverse in "R" (engagement may feel more harsh than normal)
This certainly sounds like an electrical failure. I would almost think that the computer has no power, but it will still throw codes. This is a strange one...
Can you give any more details on the history of the vehicle and what you have checked so far?
If ford trans tech stops by he will probably be able to help.

I just picked this truck up last weekend. I actually drove it to the panhandle of WV from Florida like this.. Needless to say, my mileage wasn't the best!
Anyway, I've checked the TECA relay, in the fuse box under the hood... I also checked both of the electrical connectors on the transmission itself. I did adjust the FIPL to within specs and checked the connector on the barometric sensor.
With so many codes relating to the solenoid pack, I would almost think that there is a broken wire in the harness somewhere. I plan to check into it more deeply tomorrow, unless I get any ideas of another place to look.
One thing I have not tried yet, is clearing the stored codes and seeing what happens then. Does that sound like a stupid idea?

I just did a google search for: "Wrong gear starts" e4od
and found that somebody has had this problem before. Not being in the transmission rebuilding industry, I can't get a login for the site: <cite>
Transmission Rebuilders Network International
The brief description in google reads: "</cite>Subject: E4OD, Wrong gear starts codes 56 91 92 93 94 99..."
I'd sure like to know what they did to fix it!

you have a blown fuse or fuse link that powers the transmission
check the red wires at the transmission bulhead connector with the key in th eon position
if there is no power there then thats your problem
the processor is coding all of the solenoids because it is not seeing voltage on any of the solenoid wires indicating an open circuit

Checked all the fuses under the hood again today.. All were good. Would the wires you are talking about, be in the loom going from the fusebox to the PCM connector? If so, I'll check them in the morning.. That would also explain why I have no O/D Off light on the shifter...

I pulled the connector off the PCM today, turned the key on and checked both red wires to the connector. They were both showing 12.05v. Turned the key off, reinstalled the connector and turned the key back on. Got under the truck and unhooked the solenoid pack connector. I checked all the contacts on the wiring harness and got 12.05 on the red one. I also got .31v on about 4 of the others.
There is power down to the connector, so I'm guessing that the problem is in the pack, or in the female side of the connector. I have a friend, that may have one from a 90 E4OD.. Will it work in a 93?

yes it will ,you have either a damaged wiring loom from teh fender apron to teh trans or you may have a pcm issue
you can take another solenoid pack and plug it into the wiring harness beside the trans and retest the system and see if the solenoid codes are still present
check the fuse panel under the dash also it contains fuses pertinant to the trans
also a bad solenoid pack will not prevent the o/d cancel switch from functioning unless it is flashing
