How big of a tire can fit on my truck?

My truck tires are 255/70R/17. I talked to the tire shop a few days ago and he said a 265/70R17 would fit. My old 98 F-150 had 275/75R/16's on it.
I think 75R's would rub on this truck. If possible I'd like to go 275/70R/17.
Would the 275's fit without rubbing when turned?

4x2 or 4x4?

4x2: a 32" tire will fit just fine (275x70x17)

4x4: a 33" tire will fit with 0 issues (285x70x17)

anything bigger for either 4x4 or 4x2 will require a leveling kit to maintain clearances
