Classic car value guides?

Anyone that believes those NADA Old Car Price Guides is living in a dream world.
The prices are so far off, it's ridiculous.
They're based on (prolly shilled) auction sales, and what stuff is priced at..priced at = not what they sold for...in Hemmings, Old Cars Weekly, Cars & Parts, etc.
Every year it seems, some cluck at NADA bumps the prices 10% or more.
If peeps priced all their old rolling piles of misery at what NADA sez they're worth, not one old vehicle would change hands.

Un F'ing unbelievable that someone would pay that price, when you consider a minty first year production 1940 Continental coupe (only 50 were made) won't even bring one quarter of that price.
btw: Zephyr's came wilth several different V12's from 1936 thru 1948. Same engines as the 1940/48 Continentals. These V12's engines were oil burning, overheating dogs, why many Connies had V8's installed in the 1950's.

The most outrageous price ever IMO, was $450,000.00 for a 1938 Lincoln Zephyr 3 window coupe with a hotrodded flathead...V12 flathead, that is.

She's a 1965 Fastback A code. 289, 4spd, 300:1 posi rear. Raven black with black interior. It has had a ground-up, rotisserie restoration. It is an original car from New Mexico -- still has its original quarter panels, doors, floor pans, rockers, and inner fenders - absolutely rust free. Everything was replaced or re-done and many parts are Ford restoration components.
Re-done as a Hertz Shelby Car. Details including functional side scoops with ducted rear brake cooling, rear sway bar, seat belts, badging, and interior with Shelby seat belts and tach.
