I for one would love to see the new 09' in person at my local Ford dealer. When that will happen is still in limbo and if I were a gambling man would surmise the release will be further out than even Ford exec's will admit to. And I’m sure this new F-150 will be the BEST Ford ever designed/assembled. Which is a dirty rotten shame. For many, whom could have experienced the latest technology from Ford, will not be able to afford one. Never in our time (other than the early 80's) has the auto world been so uprooted. The days of the gas hogs are long gone and with it Ford's incredible run of having the best selling vehicle in the US for decades, the coveted F-150. It was a great and very profitable "run." One in which Ford should be most proud of. All things end in life. Which in Ford's case, as well as the light truck industry, is very sad, as well as costly.
I think Ford is doing the right thing by not disclosing all of the information on the 09 F150 yet. It keeps interest in the truck up and will continue to keep the interest until the trucks hit the lot.
It's not 2009 yet so I'm fine not seeing one on the lot. I remember a time when the new model year vehicles didnt hit the lots until november or december. its august and everyone is writing the truck off competely. insanity.
I wouldn't throw the towel in just yet. We'll never see .$99 cent gas again and these trucks simply will not 25 mpg's. I'm personally not willing to sacrifice that much of the truck's capability to see that happen.
The F-series can still be the truck leader which is just as important as the overall sales leader. FMC needs to make adjustments like everyone else has. It sounds like they're doing that with Ecoboost, 6 speed trannys and plans to tool up truck plants to build smaller cars.
As for the all V-8 line-up: It's the only way to go in a full size truck. The past has proven that the 4.6L in as economical as the six banger.
The Ranger can go bye, bye. However, not until we have a mid size entry to compete with the others.
FMC will be OK. However, as I see it Ford needs to prop up it's customer service and hold all dealers accountable to a very high standard. Additionally, Ford's warranty needs some work.

I am excited about the eco-boost V6 in a truck. I think the power band could be HUGE. I don't think there are too many F-150's that will dyno with my 3.8 litre V-6 Buick, low end torque could be a huge number and fuel mileage is there...
That being said, nothing wrong witha Straight 6 either, Dodge and Cummins seem to be fine
I am ok with a V8 but they are not the end all greatest truck motor ever made, other things work and may work BETTER. I guess we will have to wait and see.
The V8's sure sound better with a good exhaust system
Nothing wrong with an inline 6 either. Good torque (remember the 4.9L 300 I6?)
My sister has a 2003 Trailblazer with the 4.2L in line six. Very sound and good running motor, however, on the highway, my 4.6L Expy gets better MPG's. I owned two 4.9L 300 sixes, GOOD RIDENCE.

I disagree. I think 8 months ago people were holding interest but now they are looking at other options. I for one am looking to upgrade and it will most likely be in the 3/4 ton market, maybe ford and maybe not. The half ton market is going to take years to rebound. Cost of new dropping is great but unfortunately it is affecting all previous years owners. A vehicle is a depreciated asset but owners cannot afford to buy a 40K truck and have it worth 10K in two years. It all catches up at some point.
If you are buying one for the long haul, like me, then it doesn't matter. I didn't buy a new truck just to trade it in 2 yrs from now.
Well in your case it is a great time to buy or wait for 09' but for me I put about 40K miles on a year so if I don't sell in 2-3 years and I am really out.

Your on the right track with your 3/4 ton thinking so long as you opt for the diesel. The life cycle of the engine, (properly maintained) will withstand 40k per year for a 5-6 year period.

If you are buying for the long haul, why not buy a 1-2 year old truck, still under warranty, with low miles, for half (or 2/3) the price of a brand new one? Extend the warranty with part of the savings and you end up with a better warranty than a brand new truck. And those first few painful parking lot dings are already there.
Likewise, the guy who piles on 40k miles per year would also do well to start out with a 1-2 year old truck with under 20k miles on it. Not nearly as much to lose...
